There are only a handful of the most commonly known paraphilias that are recognized in our society to this current date. Some can be harmful to the person who has the paraphilia and to well as the other person on the receiving end. Paraphilias can be aggressive, harmful and have criminal consequences depending on the situation. Some examples of paraphilias are pedophilia, masochism, and frotteurism. Pedophilia deals with underage children, this type of paraphilia can be harmful, especially to the child. A child can have a psychological setback as well as physically and emotionally as well as having interpersonal problems. Children at a young age might not understand what sexual actions are where as an adult knows exactly what he or she is doing. Therefore under certain circumstances it’s considered rape and violates laws that are placed in society to protect children’s wellbeing. A child’s suffrage can go beyond the actual act, for example through fear, posttraumatic stress disorder, behavioral problems, and low self-esteem issues and even retain anger problems. Since masochism is mostly physical, one person can cause real damage to someone else. It can become dangerous and fatal. Some acts of masochism are being beaten to a certain extent, being bound and helpless and whipped or choked. After some time it takes a toll on the body and can cause severe bruising, blisters and even lead up to having permanent scars. Some say it’s more of a psychological disorder that can be treated through therapy. Although on the other side masochism it can be part of a healthy and a consenting sexual relationship within two people. Some people are tolerable to pain and even some have a need to have it. There are those who deem pain as pleasurable and if the person is consenting to certain acts, there should be nothing wrong practicing masochism under controlled
