Overcoming Obstacles That Changed My Life

Passion through the veins My personality can easily be described as beautiful and clever. My foundation is strong and charismatic. Without the upbringing from a concrete foundation like mine, I would lack my power and resiliency. Nothing was impossible and “can’t” was banned in my vocabulary. Higher education wasn’t an option or a choice, though a requirement. My journey originated at the University of Arizona when I’d encountered a life-altering hurdle that tested my faithful groundwork for the past twenty years of life. In my life I’ve encountered many obstacles that have dissuaded my positivity, changed my character and detoured my life plans. I was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury, which was deeper explained as having a stroke and forced me to put my education on hold. My injury limited a lot of my physical activities and my recovery period was a very trying time. I am still learning to cope with all of the mental and physical limitations. Initially, I felt numb because I wasn’t able to do the things that had become engrained in my previous everyday life. However, I eventually learned to view these restrictions as challenges and worked daily to becoming myself, in a different, yet stronger way. It does not determine what I am capable of achieving or the amount of passion I have for what I wish to accomplish in life. I refuse to let the past few challenging years to alter my passion for helping others obtain a higher quality of life. I have had multiples experiences that have strengthened my passion for Occupational Therapy over time. I have worked with elderly adults who have had problems from arthritis to dementia. Through this I have built relationships with residents and learned how enhance communication skills. All have been challenging, nevertheless rewarding
