Do you think that your love could overcome your jealousy and nature? In The Tiger or The Lady, Stockton asks this same question. In the story we, the readers, are faced with the same question as the princess, let the young lover open the door to a ferocious tiger and certain death? Or have to watch your love marry the beautiful maiden you hate? The story of the Tiger or the Lady is about a barbaric King who uses punishes people with the choice of a door opening to a tiger and meet their death or open the other door to a lady whom he has to marry. The King’s daughter falls in love with a young man who is not up to the standards of the King, when the princesses and her young lovers secret is found out by the King he punishes the young lover to the fate of the two doors. The princess work tirelessly to figure out what each door holds, to warn her lover. When she finds that the lady who would be behind the door was a young maiden whom she had a deep hatred for, she found herself struggling with what fate she would give her lover, give him up and see him live with a women she hated or see …show more content…

After using all of her power, gold and sheer willpower to find out the location of the tiger and the lady she was immediately meet with the choice of what she would choose. When she looked behind the curtain, she not only found the lady, but found the one woman whom she hated. “The girl was lovely, but she had dared to raise her eyes to the loved one of the princess; and, with all the intensity of the savage blood transmitted to her through long lines of wholly barbaric ancestors, she hated the woman who blushed and trembled behind that silent door.”(page 3) The princess had seen the maiden flirting with her love and from the moment she found that the maiden was behind the door she was suddenly face with the fact that killing her lover would be in her better
