Our Town Review Our Town is an amazing play written by Thornton Wilder. A week ago, on October 28th, I went to the Northern Stage and saw Our Town. It is about a small town and the lives of a few families who live there. The main message of the show to me would be that you do not have to hold on to the things from the past, and instead, it might be better to just let them go.

Our Town tells the story of a fictional small town called Grover's Corners between 1901 and 1913 through the everyday lives of its residents. In this iconic play, a young couple fall in love, marry, and live out their lives until death strikes upon them. This young couple is introduced as Emily Webb and George Gibbs by the Stage Manager, who are played by Sutton Crawford, Casey Predovic, and John Hutton.

All the actors in the play have put their heart and soul into becoming the character. All of the characters were very believable. It was as if you were watching the actual characters right in front of you. Emily; Sutton Crawford, and George; Casey Predovic, really made it look like they were in love. The actors would pretend to be holding items that weren’t actually there to allow the audience to imagine their own props. This allowed for a lot of variety within the audience and a lot of different emotions. During some of the scenes in Act III, there was blue lighting on the graveyard. This let the mood become very low, sad, and almost ery, which worked perfectly for what Thornton Wilder was trying to portray. The sound effects for this play weren’t very good. In my eyes, everything was too modern and didn’t really fit with the play or setting. One great sound effect was the cow bell hanging around the milkman Howie Newsomes’ (David Anzuelo) horse, Bessie.
