One of Origen’s few surviving works are the Homilies, which provide an idea of the life that Origen lead, but more importantly, the Homilies demonstrate the preacher and teacher Origen was, as well as “the man responding to crises within his community and his own travails, the exegete and especially the religious thinker”2 that Origen was. The Homilies reveal Origen’s thought process, and even the difficulty he had at times with understanding the Scriptures. Origen’s Homilies often show that he believed each Scripture had multiple meanings, quite possibly even each word, “he believed that only Scripture held the secrets of God's purpose for man, and he suspected that it could be revealed only by the most detailed and patient unraveling of the truths contained therein.”2 …show more content…

Origen suggested that Jeremiah and his views during Israel’s captivity serve as lessons for Christians, these lessons being: “conversion, repentance, the Judgment, spiritual progress, the Fire, the role of Christ, the role of evil, the meaning of Israel, and salvation.”2 These views of Jeremiah come from a relatively limited remains of Origen’s work, only paragraphs from the Homilies to be specific.
