Optimism as a dominant result means that I believe the future holds positive opportunities with successful outcomes. This means that I most likely have good stress coping strategies, motivation, and persistence. I’m likely to invest a high level of trust or faith in the belief that things will turn out okay. Although optimism is my dominant personality trait, I do have occasional pessimistic views, especially during difficult experience and events.

When an optimists get a low grade on an exam, the optimist views the exam as the reason for not getting a higher grade. They believe that they will improve their grade on the next exam. When a pessimists receive a high grade they believe that it is irregular and probably won’t happen again. “People with low expectations do the opposite. In life, it is important to be optimistic, and see the glass as half full. Being optimistic means to look at things in a positive way. And it is important to stay optimistic in life. Being an optimist can also be thought of as having lots of hope for the future. Sometimes it is hard to be optimistic when other things in your life are going wrong. But, you have to look past the negatives, and try to see the best in things and keep hope. Penelope and I are both similar because we both stay optimistic in life.
The importance dispositional optimism as a facilitator of well-being, positive health, flourishing, and quality of life has been documented in the positive psychology literature. Dispositional optimism evaluated by the LOT-R is a positive personality trait characterized by favorable personal future expectation (Scheier et al., 1994). It has been emphasized that optimism is a malleable personality trait and that pessimists can become optimists by utilizing techniques such as positive psychology interventions (Carver et al., 2009; Seligman, 2011). In contrast to traditional psychological interventions, positive psychology interventions have a strong focus on cultivating positive personality traits including dispositional optimism.
Merriam -Webster defines hope as “a desire accompanied by expectation or belief in fulfillment.” I see hope as neither polished nor refined. Hope sometimes is misunderstood as a characteristic that has to do with religion; however, hope is used in more than just a religious sense. Although hope is not a physical attribute, one can easily see the physical appearance of the person change, who has hope. Hope fuels desire to not give up, it provokes a positive outlook on the future, and makes way for change.
Optimism was an attractive to many because it answered a profound philosophical question: if God is omnipotent and benevolent, then why is there so much evil in the world? Optimism provides an easy way out: God has made everything for the best, and even though one might experience personal misfortune, God (via your misfortune) is still helping the greater good.

Whether we are naturally an optimist or more of a pessimist, it’s impossible to know what the future holds. So perhaps the best of both worlds is to be a realistic optimist - someone who tends to maintain a positive outlook, but within the constraints of what they know about the world (actionforhappiness.org).
Happiness, what is it, and why do we strive to achieve it so persistently? Happiness in some points of view is portrayed as the state that is derived from self-awareness of a benefiting action or moment taking place. What of the moments that are not beneficial? Can a person still find moments of happiness and success in discord, a little glimmer of light shining from the deep recesses of our own consciousness? Plucking it from a mere moment, achieved from money, or is it so much more, happiness is the precipice that all strive to gain to better perceive their success. As a person lives, they are in a constant struggle to be happy. For instance, even the United States Constitution makes reference to the idea that every person has the inalienable right to pursue happiness. This was the resulting outcome of the enlightenment from France, spilling out into the rest of the world from 1650 through 1800. This revolutionized the idea that every single person has the inalienable right to happiness or in different views the right to succeed. As to how one peruses or conjures their happiness that is an entirely different concept and completely up to their preferred preference, but it is something that a person needs to find on their own for true success.
It has been nine weeks into my freshman year and I have gain so much knowledge from each class that I take. I have learn that procrastinating and waiting until the last minute to do assignments and to study is not a wise decision. I have also learned new study skills and habits. I’ve learned how to walk up the hill like I have a purpose in life so that I make it on time to my classes and not be tardy.
Firstly, people who show an optimism bias feel more happy and satisfied with their life. These people are also more in control of and engaged in their life’s goal, they will not just think about happy thoughts and wait for life to pass, instead they will be engaged in a meaningful life and do whatever it takes to accomplish their goals. They are also less likely to give up on a difficult situation and will cope with it. These are people who will not wait for the rain to pass but who learn to dance in the rain in order to fulfil their life’s goal. Unrealistic optimism shows an increased well-being and happiness. With this increased well-being, unrealistically optimistic people are also more able to pick themselves up after a major life
Optimism bias is defined as the belief that the future will be better than the present and past; the individual is optimistic about the future. The individual also overestimates the chances that good things will happen in the future and underestimates the chances of something bad to happen. The optimism bias can have a positive effect as it keeps the individual from falling into depression. Being realistic is often difficult because in reality we are going to have many bad things happen to us but we don’t want to admit this as it is a depression matter. An individual is going to lose their job, lose someone they love, get into a car accident, or make a terrible mistake but thinking about these things isn’t particularly healthy for the mind.
Most people deem that having a strong ego is a bad thing. However, I feel that my ego is the greatest asset in my personality as an optimist. There is a combination of three characteristics that make up my optimism. They are my strong determination and tenacious will power, good strong work ethic, and my positive morals as a person. All of the theories/concepts discussed in this paper have helped to change the course of my life in a very positive way. Being mindful has taught me to be more open to new experiences and points of view; being religious helped me cope with many negative situations in my life; using Fredrickson’s undoing hypothesis taught me how to think positive in negative situations; having flow taught me how to be more focused; having time affluence taught me how to value the more important things in life over money; and having hope keeps my spirit up and prevents me from giving up on my goals. All these concepts/theories are very important towards positive living and they have definitely helped me deal with many situations in a more positive manner.
I believe in positive thinking because it is like a small plant which can grow huge with the help of some fertilizer and regular care. Similarly, the more I use positive thinking, the better I will be at it, and the more it will grow.
