Odysseus Hero Characteristics

There has been many fictional heroes of our our time. Many of them had traits that made them amazing. However most of the traits came from some of the first Greek heros. One hero in particular is Odysseus who has went on a long journey back home after fighting in the Trojan war as seen in Homer’s Odyssey. Three characteristics has really stood out in Odysseus.In Homer's Odyssey, Odysseus proves to be an epic hero due to he perseverance,wisdom, and courage. In Homer's Odyssey, Odysseus Proves to be an epic hero due to his perseverance.In the story Odysseus continues to fight to return to his home. He encounters many challenges along the way ,but they never stop him from becoming an epic hero. A great example of this is when Odysseus's men sacrificed many of the sun god's cattle. In turn, helios prayed to Zeus and he sent a lightning rod down on Odysseus ship. Then the narrator states ,” only Odysseus …show more content…

Odysseus the hero in the Odyssey makes very wise decisions in many situations.One case is when he was tested by the cyclops.However on his side was the goddess of wisdom.The narrator states,”Odysseus is the cleverest of the Greek heroes because he is guided by the goddess Athena”(Beers and Odell 760).Odysseus had a situation where he and his fellow shipmates were trapped in the Cyclops’s cave.Odysseus had Athena’s wisdom ,and he rode on the bottom of the Cyclops’s sheep to escape. Another testing of his wisdom is when he faced the monster Scylla. Instead of telling his man six of them would die, he didn’t say anything. Odysseus says ,“I told them nothing as they could do nothing”(Beers and Odell 782).Odysseus’s men would have fled the scene ,and left him by himself if he would have said anything. Scylla has six heads , and for each head she engulfs one man.Odysseus has used wisdom to get through many trials and challenges,but it also takes takes a lot of courage to become an epic
