After researching and reading I found that one of the major effects of the Moon on the Earth and its inhabitants is its gravitational influence on the tides of Earth. The tidal effect of the moon usually affects the largest bodies of water, like the main oceans. The gravity of the moon pulls the water in the oceans toward it. As the Earth rotates, the knot shifts through the different areas of the globe. Tides appear on both sides of the Earth because of the pull of the sun. The flow of the oceanic tides helps the movement of heat from the equator north and south to the poles.

The area also has a historical significance as it is near the landing place of Captain James Cook on the 28th of April 1770 in Botany Bay.
Christopher Benfey’s work The Great Wave is a narrative driven by a collection of accounts, stories and curious coincidences tying together The Gilded Age of New England in particular with interactions and connections to the Japan of old and new. In the context of The Great Wave, Benfey's own personal journey to Japan at the age of sixteen should be understood. Embarking on this voyage to learn traditional writing, language and Judo, his story can also be seen as a not only a historical continuation, but also a personal precursor to the vignettes he discovers and presents to the reader.
One of the greater messages conveyed through An Ocean Apart, A World Away, pertains to the eradication of sexism, encouraging equality between all genders, and re-establishing the independence of women in many cultures. The author demonstrates the struggles of one individual assimilating into a foreign culture. The difference between the Chinese and American culture is evident as are the attempts of the main character to assimilate, and adapt to his/her new surroundings. The novel compares the stereotypes women face in both the Chinese and American culture and clearly regards it as an issue. An Ocean Apart, A World Away is a unique story with an important message, providing great insight into the history of China while maintaining a subtle sense of humour to keep the story entertaining. It also has a strong female protagonist but failed to successfully develop secondary characters. Other female characters could have aided the story in giving a stronger message as well as creating a more interesting plot. The plot lacked many details during the events, causing the plot to seem rushed. Although the story is lacking in some aspects, readers will find themselves fully engrossed into the daily lives of Chinese women during the early 1900s.
Carson has written this essay to provide insight about the tide currents of the deep waters. She also raises insight awareness on planetary forces and physical dimensions. Carson’s main focus consists on informing the readers about the size, timing, and occurrences the tides correlated with. Statistics and studies are given to further elaborate and assist Rachel’s theory that states “In every country the moon keeps ever the rule of alliance with the sea which-it once for all has agreed upon." From the tone of the essay, it can be seen that the theme contains educational content that has significant importance to the global being.
In the beginning of the creation of Earth volcanoes erupted all over the planet. During this period there was a time where a brief cooling period was allowed to take place. When this period took place evaporation caused a downpour of rain which flooded the ocean creating the ocean. At the time that ocean was averaged at 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Around this same time an asteroid so powerful hit the Earth knocking off a large chunk of it. This chunk became the moon which at the time was twice as close as it is today. The hitting of the planet Earth cause such a shake that many new undersea volcanoes began spewing forth molten rock and gasses. These gasses and other particles formed on the oceans surface and with the moon being so close were smashed together by strong and violent waves.

Ocean currents are horizontal or vertical movement of both surface and deep water throughout the world’s oceans (Briney, n.d.). The primary generating forces are wind and differences in water density caused by variations in temperature and salinity. Currents generated by these forces are modified by factors such as the depth of the water, ocean floor topography and deflection by the rotation of the Earth. Horizontal currents are wind driven, fast moving and carries small amount of water; while, vertical currents are slow moving, density driven and carries large bodies of water. In this paper I will describe horizontal and vertical currents, their importance and some of the tools used to measure ocean currents.

Without it our planet would be too cold for humans to survive. Human activity has changed the concentration of certain greenhouse gases in the atmosphere since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. The world, for all we know, may end sooner than we think.

Spring tides are especially strong tides; in spite of the name they have nothing to do with the season spring. They occur when the Earth, the sun, and the moon are in a line. Spring tides occur during the full moon and the new moon. Neap tides are especially weak tides. They occur when the gravitational forces of the moon and the sun are perpendicular to one another. When water moves from side to side, it is called a current. Currents move warm and cold water to different parts of the ocean.
The following two poems “A Psalm of Life” and “ The Tide Rises, the tide Falls” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s, both share a common theme of death. The main philosophical point of the poem “ A Psalm of Life”is to live life to the fullest rather than just allowing life to pass by. The main philosophical point of the poem “ The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls” is that people come and go but and that the memories that they have left soon begin to disappear and forgotten over time. Although these two poems share the theme of death they both show a different way they see death and the mood. In the poem “ A Psalm of Life” he doesn’t really think of death instead he lives in the moment and the mood in the poem is encouraging and hopeful. Rather than in the poem “ The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls” he is accepting the fact that you cannot fight death that it will happen sooner or later and the mood is more calming.

These large waves move through the ocean and strike the land, but unlike normal waves that recede when they strike land, tsunamis continue miles inland. The ocean cycle is also responsible for the movement of nutrients through the environment. When tides move through the ocean they pull up nutrients that are located at the seafloor. Those nutrients then are moved with currents throughout the world. This is how the Ocean Cycle plays a role in the environment and Earth.
