In twenty-first century, the development of culture and civilization directly lead to the status of women has upgraded a lot. However, the society is still strong masculine. In visual culture, the phenomenon of men ‘objectified’ is far from in the same way as women, both in frequency and common. It is undeniable that men are ‘objectified’ with a higher tendency than before, but it still cannot compare with women. Women have been treated ‘objectified’ has a longer history and it is acceptable by most people. In this article, it focuses on analysis the objectification of women and men, and compare objectification between two genders, as well, it claims what are the social and political consequences bringing by objectification, and how the third-wave …show more content…

Hatton and Trautner (2011) found out that no matter in the past or at present, the sexualization of women is continuous. This conclusion is based on their research to the covers of Rolling Stone from 1960s to 2000s, nearly forty years. They summarize their results on a line graph (Fig 1), it directly reflects the percentage of sexualized images of women has a sharply increase, from 45 percent to 82 percent, on the contrary, the percentage of nonsexualized images of women falls from 55 percent to 17 percent. Rolling Stone rather than a men’s magazine, like Playboy, even though it is a magazine about American popular culture, the objectification of women is full of the covers of this magazine. Thus, it can be seen, the objectification of women is a historical problem. On the line graph, as well illustrates the sexualized images of men has a slightly growth, from 10 percent to 18 percent.
