Nyle Dimarco YouTube vlog, talks about the struggles faced with Deaf infants. Dimarco, stated that a parent’s Deaf infant will be the first Deaf person ever met in their life. Its already difficult for first time parents but having a Deaf infant means learning a new language. This is emotionally heart breaking it may be for parents. This is not easy for parents and their Deaf infants but there are many options. He talked about how English and American Sign Language are very similar by the fact both languages are complete languages. Learning American Sign Language first helps the Deaf child have a better understanding of the English language. Almost 90 percent of a child’s brain develops by the age of five years old. The Rogerson family is a family of 4, consisting of a hearing mother, father, and 6-year-old daughter, and they have a three-year-old who is deaf. Before having an infant who was deaf the parents had very little knowledge of the Deaf community. Lucia, the mother mentioned she thought people who were deaf had a ton of problems, couldn’t function in the hearing culture, and thought the government took care of the Deaf community. But, now living with a Deaf child their home changed. Instead of just speaking the English Language, now they had to learn ASL which is a whole new language. Though, this was their choice.
