As a fourth year college student, I have spent countless hours in the university's library studying topics such as nutrition, biology, and biochemistry in hopes of building my knowledge on topics that are my passion. With the use of my newly acquired knowledge, I will be able to dedicate my life to helping people, which will result in reaching fulfilment in terms of dignity and meaning. After I have successfully completed my bachelor’s degree, internship, master's degree, and RD examination, I will obtain my registered dietitian license. The decision to pursue a career in dietetics is a commitment to working to help people in need who may struggle with nutrition issues such as education deficiencies or chronic illness. A career in dietetics will lead to a life of dignity and meaning due to reaching fulfillment from helping people, being part of the ethical changes in nutrition politics, and providing nutrition education to those in need.
My line of work will provide a service for the greater good for the health of the nation. According to the Dietetics Association, dietitians have a responsibility to the wellbeing of the community by immersing him/herself in situations where nutritional expertise is needed. As I continue to build my career as a dietitian, I will be informed on topics relating to nutrition, specifically agriculture due to its impact on the types of foods produced in the U.S. It will be my responsibility to be informed on important issues that may affect public health. For example, nutrition education is currently on high demand in the adolescent stage for women due to the fact that it is the most common endocrine disorder seen among this age group (Sindhu). It is critical for adolescent girls to receive nutrition education on the body’s needs for proper development. Reproductive morbidities, which are issues with reproduction or infant deaths, are increased when there are nutritional deficiencies. In adolescence, reproductive organs are flourishing, so it is important to help the girls to understand their body’s requirements. These must be reached in order to achieve the optimal maintenance and health of reproductive organs, which will aid healthy reproductive processes (Sindhu).
