Keeping track of what I ate for three days forced me to be held accountable. Few people realize just what they eat on a daily basis. Seeing the food log and the analysis helped me have a better understanding of what I put into my body and what my body needs on a daily basis as far as energy and nutrients. The analysis gave a summary for calories, food groups, and nutrients, both macro and micronutrients. I was and am still trying to lose weight. I thought the best way to do that was to eat as little calories as possible. During the three days I recorded my food log, I averaged less than 1,000 calories per day. According to my nutrients report, I consumed a sufficient amount of macronutrients. I consumed a sufficient amount of macronutrients except for dietary fiber and linoleic acid. Since I now consume more grains like rice and quinoa, my dietary fiber has increased, and I now consume an adequate amount of dietary fiber. The same can be said for linolenic acid since I now consume more oils like vegetable and coconut oil. The only macronutrient I consumed too much of was added sugar. I think this came from the protein shake. In reality, I chose a protein shake with only four grams of sugar; however, the only option on the supertracker website for a protein shake had 32 grams of protein. It is important to stay away from empty calorie foods and energy dense foods. Empty calorie foods are foods high in calories but contain little nutrients like vitamins, proteins, and minerals. Examples of empty calorie foods include chips and soda. These are the normal snack foods and craving foods. Energy dense foods are foods that contain a high amount of calories per unit. These foods are often processed and have a high shelf life. Fast food like hamburgers, fried chicken and milkshakes are examples of energy dense foods.
