Healthcare professionals work undoubtedly in a challenging environment therefore in order to cope with heavy workloads they need to develop and maintain some kind of tactics to stabilise the stress both their professional and personal life. This is where the concept of resilient is important to understand in relation to workplace setting as it has the ability in individuals to be able to endure in overcoming challenging circumstances. Resilience can assist in providing support, reducing stress and improving practitioners’ and healthcare consumers’ overall wellbeing.

Especially for the newly graduated stepping into the workforce this may be a huge challenge. Different people have various levels of resilience and if left unchecked then they will have unfavourable effect on patient care and professional life. For example, the burnout could cause nurse to be impolite, unkind and insensible. Even though no one goes into nursing to be uncaring but unfortunately this is the result of what patients experience. Healthcare professionals to an extent should have ability to put up a mask and be emotional harsh and detached when their duties are done. Developing an emotional tough enables the worker such as nurse to perform their obligations and somewhat persist emotionally separated from their patients rather than taking it too personally. Another coping mechanism is sharing the workplace matters to relatives, friends and colleagues especially if there are cautionary signs of stress such as anxiety, frustrations, increased levels of mood swings etc. A different approach to come in terms with the emotional burden of work is by presenting the issue in staff meetings in front line of managers and directors.
