The Scary Movie trilogy is a spoof of scary and not so scary films. The first of the three movies to date was released in 2000. The movie was based on the scary movies that were released at that time. These movies included: Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Sixth Sense, and The Blair Witch Project. As the movies progressed they seemed to add parodies of not so scary movies such as Charlie's Angels and Mission Impossible II. Even though these movies did not seem to fit into the title, they were still creatively incorporated into the second movie. Then, there is the highly anticipated third movie with spoofs of all the movies that have made it big recently. So, of course this seemed to be the best of the three featuring The Ring, 8 Mile, Signs, The Matrix, and even an "appearance" by the king of pop, Michael Jackson.
With all of these great influences, how is it that a formerly great series turned so terribly wrong? Well, this is where I think they went wrong. The original writers of the first two movies were obviously nowhere to be found in this attack on recent flicks. Instead, this movie was passed on to Pat Proft, writer of Police Academy, Hot Shots, and Naked Gun, and David Zucker, writer and director of the Airplane and naked gun Movies. Granted, all of these movies are extremely funny, but they were made for a different generation.
The first two movies are rated R and are full of sexual situations, pot smoking, and alcohol consumption. I know that it may sound wrong, but that is what is expected in movies now, especially when the two predecessors were full of this. In the first movie, Shorty (Marlon Wayans) is constantly smoking and even shares a bit with the killer. Although this is not okay for real life, it is perfectly fine and amusing in the movie.
I also think that most of the jokes in the movie were hit-or-miss. The good funny jokes balanced out the less successful ones. Basically, the parodies of The Ring and Signs were hilarious, but I definitely could have dealt without anything pertaining to 8 Mile or The President. These jokes just were not funny; they did not seem to blend very well with the other movies. In the first two of the series, the jokes were coming at you constantly.
The Haunting of Hill House is a book about four people that all have backgrounds of experiencing supernatural events. Because of this, they were all chosen to explore the supernatural happenings occurring at Hill House. The house was originally built by a man named Hugh Crain. It had been a place of mysterious events and also the deaths of those who lived there. Dr. Montague, a supernatural investigator, then carefully selected three people with paranormal backgrounds, and invited them to explore the occurrences at the house. Luke, the future heir of the house, Theodora, a careless artist, and Eleanor Vance are invited to the house. Eleanor Vance is the main character and narrator of the story. She lived alone, had few to no friends, and was looking for excitement going on a journey to Hill House. When the four arrived, they all were frightened by the looks of the house, but all seemed well until their third night there. When they were all asleep, banging and laughing came from behind their doors, and animals were seen running in the house. Large writings...
Acting of movie is very basic for todays standards. The actions of the Miles Bennell aren’t believable or logical. At some points the women of the movie tend of over action simple scenes. The rest of the cast is monotone and have little emotion.It ok casting, but they could of done better. You find yourself laughing at serious point in the film due to the poor acting. This movie could be recut to become a comedy movie, just based off their facial expression.
There were however something’s that he could improve on. While it may have been acceptable for Ferrell to take a less serious more comedic approach there still should have been some type of sense of seriousness. I felt through watching it that there was some places especially when he called out his wife that there may have been an awkward feeling in the room. You never want to give your speech where you make people in the crowd uncomfortable.
“Do you like scary movies?” purred a sinister voice over the telephone, and immediately Scream had marked itself out as something new in a tired genre. When it was released in 1996, the classic slasher franchises had all pretty much ran out of steam. Scream was different, it was a breath of fresh air: smart and self-referential, it reminded horror fans what they loved about the genre in the first place, and scared them silly at the same time.
Despite the critical misgivings about Simpson/Bruckheimer productions, audiences still tend to flock to their brand of mayhem, hyper masculinity, thunderous sound effects, and cutting edge special effects. And while they have had their share of bombs (like the dismal “Days of Thunder” or “Gone in 60 Seconds”) more often than not, they make movies the public seems to love.
It lasted for an interminable amount of time, wearing out its welcome, and could have been made funnier by some zany music. Although I didn’t like those aspects of the humor here, the Marx Brothers deserve credit for making such a relentlessly funny movie. The density of gags here is astounding, as they come in seemingly every breath for the entire runtime. Even if a portion of those jokes don’t land, that seems less significant given just how many jokes there are.
The imaginative Nightmare Before Christmas is considered one of the most imaginative films in some of the most recent decades. This film masterpiece from the creative and revolutionary mind of Tim Burton has been one of my favorite movies from the time that I first saw it when I was a small child, to now. The beautiful textures and colors perfect capture both holidays of Halloween and Christmas in the film. Along with the textures comes a masterfully soundtrack that so perfectly adds mood and depth to this story. The even the beautiful textures are enough for this film to land itself in someone’s favorite list.
Perhaps no other film changed so drastically Hollywood's perception of the horror film as did PSYCHO. More surprising is the fact that this still unnerving horror classic was directed by Alfred Hitchcock, a filmmaker who never relied upon shock values until this film. Here Hitchcock indulged in nudity, bloodbaths, necrophilia, transvestism, schizophrenia, and a host of other taboos and got away with it, simply because he was Hitchcock.
Film scholars around the world agree that all genres of film are part of the “genre cycle”. This cycle contains four different stages that a specific genre goes through. These stages are: primitive, classic, revisionist, and parody. Each stage that the genre goes through brings something different to that genre’s meaning and what the audience expects. I believe that looking at the horror genre will be the most beneficial since it has clearly gone through each stage.
Horror films are designed to frighten the audience and engage them in their worst fears, while captivating and entertaining at the same time. Horror films often center on the darker side of life, on what is forbidden and strange. These films play with society’s fears, its nightmare’s and vulnerability, the terror of the unknown, the fear of death, the loss of identity, and the fear of sexuality. Horror films are generally set in spooky old mansions, fog-ridden areas, or dark locales with unknown human, supernatural or grotesque creatures lurking about. These creatures can range from vampires, madmen, devils, unfriendly ghosts, monsters, mad scientists, demons, zombies, evil spirits, satanic villains, the possessed, werewolves and freaks to the unseen and even the mere presence of evil.
Entrails torn from the body with bare hands, eyes gouged out with razor blades, battery cables, rats borrowing inside the human body, power drills to the face, cannibalism, credit cards, business cards, Dorsia, Testoni, Armani, Wall Street; all of these things are Patrick Bateman’s world. The only difference between Bateman and anybody else is what is repulsive to Bateman and what is repulsive to the rest of the world. Bateman has great interest in the upper class life, fashions, and social existence, but at the same time he is, at times, sickened by the constant struggle to be one up on everybody else. On the other hand Bateman’s nightlife reveals a side of him never seen during the day. Bateman is relaxed, impulsive, and confident while torturing and killing. He doesn’t have to worry about being better than anyone else. The only competition he has is his last victim. Torture and murder are the two true loves of Patrick Bateman.
Almost everyone has a favorite genre of film, but how everyone defines their favorite genre can differ greatly. Horror is one of the genres where its definition can be perceived differently by many people. Like all other genres, horror does have rules and traditions that must be included in order for a film to be considered a horror film. These rules and traditions include a protagonist, an antagonist, an escape or escape attempt of some sort, and very influential audio and visual effects.

The Conjuring is a “real” Hollywood horror film based on possession of the human kind by demonic figures. There's a dog that ends up doing the usual thing dogs do in horror films (they act scared and bark constantly or end up dying unknowingly). There's a doll that end up doing what dolls usually do in horror films (taunt the human body). There's some doors banging, some ghost hunters with motion detectors and UV lights, eerie TV static, and some creepy ghosts who appear out of the blue when you expect to least expect them, and to top it off they add creepy music and the spooky makeup that all ghosts wear so you can identify them or recognize them.
