The Storytelling Animal is an expository non-fiction book by Jonathan Gottschall analyzing the history of stories and human’s attraction to them. It was published in 2012 and thus contains many up-to-date references and comparisons. I believe Gottschall’s main objective in writing this book is to bring us all to the conclusion that he has reached in his research. Throughout the entirety of his book, Gottschall effectively pulls us back to main ideas he wants us to understand and accept, that we are innately storytelling animals, that are addicted to stories ourselves, have always been and will always be, by using topics that build upon one another, using relatable examples, and supporting arguments with research and studies.
Roaring Lambs by Bob Briner is a great book about how a Christian should approach, consume, and get involved in media as a whole. Briner states that we should be roaring lambs, meek, inferior, and not seen as a threat. However, we can be roaring lambs by virtually shouting our messages through modern media.
The story begins in the ordinary world with Chihiro and her family moving to a new home. Chihiro is intimidated by the prospects of starting her life anew. Resulting in her being a whiny, selfish and fearful little girl. All of this changes when her and her parents visit an abandoned theme park and accidentally cross into the spirit world. This is where she meets Haku, outside of a bath house. The young boy informs her of their entry into the spirit world and tries to get her back to her world. But it is too late, in their gross ignorance her parents have already eaten from a feast intended for the spirits and they are turned into pigs as punishment. 10-year-old Chihiro now finds herself left alone in the spirit world. This is what Joseph Campbell calls “the call to adventure”. She’s been transported out of the ordinary world and is now responsible for saving her parents in this new and strange world. Chihiro is frightene...

James is an interesting book filled with tips and commands. It is a book that our lives should be based around. There is teaching on taming the tongue, temptations, listening well, favoritism, deeds, wisdom, submission, boasting, warning, patience, and prayer. Jam packed with valuable information, it is one of the most useful books that I have come across.
The moon gleams luminously down on the clearing, revealing a small village that appears to be whittled out of the jungle. On the outermost edge of a cluster of small buildings there sits a hut, all of its windows lit by firelight. All of a sudden a fierce squalling cry pierces the quiet night. The mother lying inside the hut breathes out a sigh of relief as she wipes her sweaty brow. After all these months, her baby has finally made his way into the world. She reaches out and grabs a hold of her newborn son, bringing him up to her so she can see his tiny face. As she looks down on him, a whimper of dismay escapes her. It’s a monster! Surely this horrifying creature cannot be her baby! His face seems to be split from the lower lip up; he looks like he is snarling at her. As she watches, he utters another loud cry. The ghastly tissue where his cherubic mouth should be flaps wildly. Her heart sinks in grief as she realizes that all her pain has been for naught. This monster cannot be allowed to live. They will have to dispose of him.
In the novel, Lord of the Flies, there’s a plane crash which leaves a group of young boys stranded on a deserted island. There’s a continous pattern of leadership versus rebellion, following the rules and anarchy, life and death. The few main characters we know the names of here are Ralph, Piggy, Jack, Simon, Roger, Sam, Eric, Johnny, Bill, Maurice, and the Lord of the Flies himself. The book is a rollercoaster of fighting to get off of this island whether you’re dead or alive.
Riots in the streets, people looting stores left and right, complete chaos. Could this be true human nature, with a sophisticated society being only an illusion we trick ourselves with? In William Golding’s Lord Of The Flies Main characters Jack and Ralph fight for power of the island they crash landed on with Jack representing complete savagery and Ralph representing well-mannered individuals. the boys and their followings get along in the beginning, but as time progresses Jack becomes increasingly more and more savage. Golding created the character of Jack to represent what human nature truly is; Complete savagery. Savagery such as this is depicted many times throughout the novel including how Jack responds to the situation with the “beastie”,
"Nothing. I just thought that I should visit you." His dark brown eyes examined the room thoughtfully. "Chanyeol really shouldn't leave a helpless girl alone."
“It’s either kill him, or let him turn into one of those things. Trust me, this is the right choice.”
