Networks and Websites.

Steve Jobs once stated, "What a computer is to me is the most remarkable tool that we have ever come up with. It's the equivalent of a bicycle for our minds (Griggs)." Computers and the Internet are full of exciting things, but it takes a lot for something remarkable to happen. There are so many opportunities available on the Web, but first there needs to be a connection. Networks such as LANs or WANs need to be available, then the Internet needs to be connected to a network, and finally it is time to search and enjoy the best Web sites in the world.

A network is a collection of computers and devices connected together wirelessly, generally used to share resources, exchange files, or allow electronic communications (Shelly). Computers may be connected to a network by cables, telephone lines, radio waves, or satellites. In order for a computer to be online and work, it needs to be connected to the network. The two most common networks are known as a local area network (LAN) and a wide area network (WAN).

Although these two networks are used for the same thing, they are very different. A local area network (LAN) is used for a small area. The most common places it is used is a home, school, office building, or a group of buildings could also be connected to one (Groth). A local network is useful for sharing resources like files, printers, games or other applications. Being able to share resources is beneficial because it will save money. For example, instead of buying a printer for everyone in an office, it is possible to hook several up to the same one.
