I consider my childhood fairly similar to my peers, with only one thing setting me apart from them... money. We did not struggle putting food on the table, but we did struggle to keep a roof above our heads. I have lived in the same house since I was born and can remember multiple times when the bank almost took it away from us. Nothing is scarier than seeing your parents struggle, or watching your mom cry when she opened bills, realizing that we did not have the money to pay them. I think the scariest part of it all was simply being confused. I was an innocent little girl that hated being surrounded by parents who were constantly stressed about money, and it broke my heart that there was nothing I could do to help them. It should be budgeted carefully and you should save as much as you can, while you can. My parents not budgeting carefully not only negatively impacted them, but their children as well. These struggles have motivated me, leading me to my promising career pathway as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. I have a long road ahead of me because after my four-year journey, I will only have an Associate’s Degree as a Registered Nurse. This is also when my HOPE Scholarship will run out, so the little amount of money that I have saved right now will be gone in the blink of an eye once I begin my continued education as a Practitioner. Not only will my tuition be charged in the full amount, but it will be from a larger, more expensive school. Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is highly specialized career, meaning that the required education you must have is only offered a big name school. Unfortunately, those big-name schools also have big name prices to go along with the high cost of living in the big city that most of them are located in. Pulling out loans is not something that anyone wants to have to do, so all the money I am saving right now is intended to be used for when the time comes for me to move on to my continued education.
