I want to be a neonatal nurse practitioner, the reason I want to become a neonatal nurse is because I have a real soft spot for baby. To be a neonatal nurse you have to give special attention to all type of babies. You have to focuses on taking care of ill or newborn infants. You don’t just have to work with infants you will have to work with the family members. I will be able to get close to family member and inform them how the infant is doing and is wrong with the baby. The history for premature and ill infants is not nothing new. Hospitals bid not start the neonatal nursing program until 1922, however, hospitals started grouping the newborn infants into one area, called the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) before this families took care of premature and ill infants at home and either lived or died without medical attention. In the middle of the 1900s, the first infant incubator was invented based on the incubators used for chickens. They used it to keep premature infants warm. So the more they made they need someone to take care of the babies in the incubator that is where then nurse came into the industry. There are approximately seven million sixty-three thousand one hundred sixty-two licensed register nurse (RN) in the United States. The current employment change in 2014has increased twenty - one percent in the different types of nursing fields. For a neonatal nurse the gender of the people there is mostly women, but men can work their also. The average age of a neonatal nurse is about 46 years old in the United States. Level three neonatal nurse works in the neonatal intensive care unit admits all babies during the first 28 days of life they need more attention that babies from level 1 and 2. The babies in level 3 are mainly premature, sick, or too small for their age. They need high technology care, or surgery. The level 3 NICU may be the largest part of a hospital. They don’t require different training you just have to have a lot of experience. You will have addition duties because you have to be extremely careful and healthy. The babies will need more attention than other babies. It depends if you need it or not some people take it to be on the safe side. After all the research I would still like to be a neonatal nurse. I am really interested in this job so I think I will stick with it. I like taking care of babies, they are so much fun.
