Richard Trenton Chase was a schizophrenic who believed the Nazis were after him with poison that would turn his blood to powder (Brogaard). In order to prevent this, he consumed and soaked himself in the blood of those he had slain (Brogaard). Psychotic serial killers can be triggered by the loss of close relatives, such as in the case of Ed Gein (Morrison 51). Ed Gein was also a Schizophrenic, who began digging up graves and most notably skinning his victims to make suits consisting of women’s breasts and genitals (Morrison 52). Gein wore these suits made from his female victims because he wanted a sex change (Brogaard).
The second theory is that he had antisocial personality disorder which devoids this person from feeling a lack of remorse or guilt. Theory one suggests that Bundy was a necrophiliac. That is, he was someone who needed to have sex with dead bodies in order to fulfill a deep urge. According to Dr. Robert Keppel a psychologist who interviewed Bundy, “It was the one part of his criminal behavior that truly embarrassed him because, as ugly as it was, it satisfied him sexually”. Serial killers get pleasure from different elements of a murder (Keppel, 2010).

They begin with visionary serial killers, who are compelled by some force, such as God, or spirits, to commit murders. The second type is the comfort killer, who usually kills acquaintances and does so for a material gain, money or real estate (Holmes et al., 1991). The third category is hedonistic female serial killers, which is similar to the earlier typology in that the offender connects murder with sexual gratification. This is the least represented category for female offenders, but evidence for this type of killer can be seen in the case of Carol Bundy (Holmes et al., 1991). Bundy allegedly helped her husband kidnap, murder, and decapitate the
The “Psyche” of a killer is broke down into categories: 1) Visionary type who kills to correspond to voice or vision of a specific person to destroy .2) Hedonistic type who kills only for the thrill, to seek pleasure of well-being. 3) Mission-Orientated who kills to eliminate a set of groups e.g. Prostitutes, Homosexuals, African Americans. 4) Lust type who kills just for sexual pleasure (Leyton). Serial killer figures such as Charlie Chop-off, Jack the Ripper, and Jack the Stripper targeted prostitutes by carrying out a mission-oriented persona, also never convicted of their callous crimes.
A lust murderer is someone who killed because sex is the primary motive. They usually use weapons, such as knives or hands, to get close contact with their victims. Edmund Kemper, the Co-ed Killer, might be one great example of a lust killer. He wasn’t a rapist, but a murderer and necrophilia. He explained in one of his interviews that he had decided to have both a situation of rape and murder with no witnesses, Beroldingen confirms.
Pakhomou (2004) defines a serial killer as a person who commits numerous homicides of different kinds in a repetitive manner and nature. On the other hand, Knight (2007) defines serial murder as the killing within a period of 30 days of three or more people. Such killings are committed by sadists and pervasive persons and they reflect displaced aggression, fantasies and destruction. This indicates clearly that, a serial killer doe’s not just carryout the act by being in a normal situation, but they act due to many eminent factors that lead them to carrying out the malicious act. These factors could be influenced by drugs and substance use, overwhelming sexual desire, carrying out revenge, or desire to acquire property.

“Gunning for you and all mankind, I’ve lost my mind. Psychotic, rabid dementia, I won’t be fine.” – Avenged Sevenfold While the members of Avenged Sevenfold, a Heavy Metal band, are not psychotic killers, their lyrics refer to the destruction of other humans. Many people have a morbid curiosity about a psychopathic murderer’s mind. The criminal justice system has a number of trained specialists to study the minds of psychotic killers. Psychopathic killers usually grow up in similar, unstable homes.
