“The Necklace” is about a woman of lower class who wants to become different than her true self. At this ball, she acts to be someone who is wealthy for the night to impress those around her because everything for her seems to be about money and fame. The song, “Just a Girl” relates to the story because it shows how she let the money get to her, what she is like when she sees her old friend after many harsh years, what her husband thinks of her, and lastly how she confused where she stood in the class systems. In the song, “Just a Girl,” Montana sings, “I’m just a girl with a dream that got the best of me. In a world, that believes fame is everything.” This line in the song directly relates to the story because she let fame and money get the best of her and acted to be someone she wasn’t. She realizes that being wealthy is not her role when she loses the necklace and has to work for 10 years to pay it back unlike the wealthy people who do not have to do hard work in order to pay something back.
