Soccer: Live it and Love it It's the year 2004. I'm only 7 years old, dressed in my Landon Donovan jersey, matching athletic shorts, and soccer cleats. I'm in my front yard running and kicking a soccer ball around with my friends. All of us impatiently awaiting the start of the biggest sporting spectacle on Earth, the World Cup. An international soccer tournament that pits nations against each other in a game of physical skill and wits. An event that draws in billions of viewers every four years. For a young fan of the game like myself, euphoria washes over me when I realize it's a World Cup year. Throughout the course of a ninety-minute game, teams and players tend to face enormous adversity. The best players in the world have tremendous analytical aptitude alongside their skills, in order to overcome this adversity. Speaking from experience, I can tell you that being on the field and figuring out a way to elude the defense and score on a net being safeguarded by a player that can use his hands is no easy task. When you step on the field, you and your team have a game plan, but almost never do you stick to that for the entirety of the game. It occasionally disappointed me when our team would have a small fan turn out because the football team had a conflicting game, but I was still more than content to be playing soccer. By the time I was a senior our soccer team was considerably more competitive than the football team and throughout my four years of high school I saw the crowd grow every season.
