Throughout my life I've seen a lot of different reasons people go to church or look to God for help, according to the way they grew up and their cultural beliefs and traditions. Some occasionally go to church on holidays like Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, New Years Eve, or maybe once a year for Communion. Some maybe turn to God when a loved one gets sick or hurt, or maybe some don't even attend church or never have attended or even believe that there is God. In the grand scheme of things God and church are something people don't care about or quickly forget about. Before the Christmas of 2009, my family and I never cared about giving God time. It was Christmas night and I was in Texas away from my family for the holidays. While celebrating and enjoying the night, and I suddenly got a call from my Mom. I answered and all I heard was her crying over the phone. Desperately I yelled and I asked her what was wrong and she told me that Dad just got in an accident. I couldn't believe what I had heard. He was driving home from work and his car slipped on black ice which caused my dad to lose full control of his car. Going 70 mph his car went off the road and he crashed into a iron railing that would stop him from going into a ditch. The collision caused the car to be totally destroyed. We couldn't believe that he survived that night. It was a miracle that God made. He spent his Christmas night in a hospital bed, but he was alive. After seeing such a miracle of our father surviving that crash it was unexplainable. We were grateful because we knew that it was only God that saved him that night. If it wasn't for God our father wouldn't be here. My mother would have raised four kids by herself. Being the oldest son I would've had to take the place as the man of the house that I would never be able to replace. The effects of this event really hit our hearts and at that moment we went from never acknowledging God to being grateful every single day from that point on. After his recovery we all began going to church. It took sometime to get used to on my end but eventually it became something I truly valued in my life. Especially still having that thought of my dad not being alive and here with me made it that much easier to thank god everyday I had
