On May 16, 2014 Narendra Modi was elected in a landslide victory as the newest Prime Minister of India. The largest victory in more than thirty years, Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 282 seats in Parliament and will have majority rule. Modi enters office after a successful term as the Chief Minister of the Indian state Gujarat. While in office, Modi ushered in many new developments that have helped spur economic revitalization in the state. Because Modi has little foreign policy experience, it is difficult to predict what his relationship will be like with the international community. If recent news is any indication it appears that Modi is looking to develop cooperative partnerships with many nations. In the U.S., Barack Obama called Modi shortly after he won the election and invited the Prime Minister to the US for bilateral talks. Narendra Modi appears to be doing everything necessary to point India in the right direction; however, his true identity will be tested when India inevitably faces a crisis situation.
Narendra Modi Biography

Narendra Modi was born to a working class family on September 17, 1950 in Vadnagar, which is now modern-day Gujarat. Raised in a family of grocers, Modi was not the best student; however, he excelled in theater and debate. His interest in the stage, led Modi to want to become a politician. Beginning at the age of eight, Modi began attending local political meetings and functions in his community. It was through these meetings that Modi became a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh or National Volunteer Organization.
