The differences between the Nanking massacre and the Holocaust was that as the Nanking massacre occurred a time when an episode of mass murder and mass rape was committed by the Japanese troops against the residents of the capital of the Republic of China during World War II. These people of the Nanking massacre remained silent this being one of the main reasons in which why these horrors of the massacre remain virtually unknown to the people outside of Asia and did not penetrate the world in the same manner the Jewish Holocaust did. Unlike the Nanking massacre, the Holocaust had a lot of affect throughout the world. Yet decades later we are still learning about it.

The term genocide brings awful things to mind. For most, it probably directs their attention towards the Holocaust; this was definitely a gruesome and obvious example of genocide, but there are many others with great similarities that are not very well known. One of these is the decimation of the Native American population by the European settlers and the atrocious things that were done to them such as the trail of tears following the Indian Removal Act of 1830 during the settling of North America. The Holocaust might be the most well known but there have been many other incidents in history just as abhorrent. The Holocaust and Native American Genocide are different in weapons used and the motives for killing but similar in intent, effects and selection of the persecuted.
When most American people think of Germany, they think of sports cars made for the autobahn, sauerkraut, Adolf Hitler, and the Holocaust. Compared to Germany, when most American people think of Japan they think of sushi, Godzilla movies, Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor, and the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. World War II was such a significant event in history that almost 70 years after it came to an end, today’s younger generations often associate former Axis controlled countries with the war. People around the world are filled with disgust and immense hate when they hear the name Hitler, mainly because of his leadership under the Holocaust; which was the discriminatory mass genocide of 11-17 million people, the vast majority of which were European Jews. Hirohito, former Emperor of Japan, should strike a similar bell with people when they hear his name because Japan carried out genocide on Chinese civilians and soldiers in World War II. Japan’s attack on the Chinese city of Nanking, was one of the most atrocious events in history. This event has been named both the Nanking Massacre and the Rape of Nanking. The torturous, violent techniques used by the Japanese army upon Chinese civilians and soldiers including dehumanizing them, addicting them to drugs, and other perverse and violent acts, are some of the most grosteque methods ever recorded that could only be thought of by sadistic Japanese soldiers. The events committed by the Japanese army in Nanking, are equally as disgusting as the acts that Nazi Germany committed and should become a major topic involved with World War II in the future, despite the lack of light shed on it in the past for various reasons.
The Jews had laws manipulated to remove and strip them of their rights. These laws were the Nuremberg laws. Next, their homes were taken from them as they were moved to concentration camps and the ghettos. The concentration camp exposed these people to severe fatigue and infection. After these two steps came the death camps. The death camps were in charge of exterminating any survivors that made it to their camp. In the Rape of Nanking, once the Chinese soldiers failed to defend the city of Nanjing, so the Japanese soldiers proceeded to go door to door killing, raping, and torturing the civilians of Nanjing. Their rights were thrown straight out of the window as they were taken captive. The difference is clearly seen as the Jewish rights were slowly stripped and the civilians of Nanjing lost them in a matter of seconds. If someone was caught, it is survival of the fittest, against weapons, blades, and any other couldn’t move away. Then they were forced out of their homes, to march to the train of convoy taking them to the concentration camp. There the gas vans, gas chambers, and the SS would murder them. Of course these two horrible tragedies aren't entirely the same but in some similarities they do compare such as, how horrendous the SS guards treated the Jewish men and woman. They murdered innocent families and the ones who surrendered would be held captive in what they called Concentration Camps. Many Jewish families tried hiding and escaping during this time and some in the end were able to get to a safe area like Yang and her family. In the movie Schindlers List, it explains how many Jewish families hid their personal belongings such as necklaces, bracelets, rings by swallowing them or hiding them in food so the guards could not find them. Before the Holocaust began, some areas in Europe removed Jewish children from the school, until 1938 when they were all banned from attending German schools. The Holocaust not only affected the areas where it took place, it affected the entire world. Even though Jewish people were the main victims in the Holocaust, it also left lasting effects on other groups of people. Both the Nazi and Jewish decedents still feel the aftermath of one of the most horrific counts of genocide that the world has ever encountered. The cries of the victims in concentration camps still ring around the globe today, and they are not easily ignored. Although the Holocaust took place during World War Two, the effects that it had on the world are still prominent today.
The Holocaust has many reasons to it. Some peoples’ questions are never answered about the Holocaust and some answers are. The Holocaust killed over 6 million Jews (Byers.p.10.) Over 1.5 million children (Byers, p.10.)They were all sent to concentration camps to do hard labor work. Jewish people weren’t the only ones sent to concentration camps. People such as people with disabilities, Homosexuals, Gypsies, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Communists, and Socialists (Byers.p.12). Everyone that was sent to concentration camps was sent via Train cars (www.historychannel.com). They had no food, water, or rest rooms up to 18 days. Many people died from the lack of food and water (Byers, p.15.). They children under 12 and elderly were sent to death camps because they were too weak or young too do the hard labor work so they were exterminated quickly (Byers, p.17.). Everybody at the camps were ordered to wear a certain colored star so they were easily spotted. The Holocaust went on from 1939 to 1945. Throughout all those years it was BAD.

If you think about it, we can compare some Civil Rights Issues today to things that happened during the Holocaust period. Now the things that happen today aren’t as harsh as things that happened during the Holocaust. A substantial Civil Rights Issue would be (1) The African Slave trade, we can compare The African Slave Trade to the Holocaust because, people of one religion or skin tone came and captured people of another religion or skin tone, and overflowed cattle cars or in The African Slave Trade, ships. Took those people and forced them to work with no pay, little food or water, and horrible living conditions. The Holocaust was a horrible time for everyone involved, but for the Jews it was the worst. The Jews no longer had names they became numbers. Also they would fight and the S.S. would watch and enjoy. They lost all personal items, then forced to look and dress the same. This was an extremely painful and agonizing process to dehumanize the Jews. Which made it easier to take control of the Jews and get rid of them.
During the Holocaust the Jewish people and other prisoners in the camps had to face many issues. The Holocaust started in 1933 and finally ended in 1945. During these 12 years all kinds of people in Europe and many other places had so many different problems to suffer through. These people were starved, attacked, and transported like they were animals.
Why didn't the non Jewish people fight for their friends, family, and acquaintances? If the non Jews would have collaborated then they would have had capitulate from the Nazis. Were they scared, or were they afraid that they could not do anything? Well, if enough of the non Jews had fought back they could have helped the Jews out of the Concentration camps and all of the torture that they were being put through. One reason that the non Jews should have fought back was if they were in the Jews predicament then they would want help too. The non Jews could have been triumphant. The non Jews should have had an aspiration for saving their friends. Hitler was putting them through the worst possible treatment. I know that I would want help. I would help it is the right thing to do and that the Jews have a right to believe what they want. Everybody has the right to believe what they want.
The United Nations was formed on October 24, 1945, after the Holocaust, to prevent genocide from ever happening again. A cartoon depicted by Michael Sutherland illustrated the unsuccessful intent of the United Nations. The United Nations is pictured standing over many graves of countries and groups that have suffered from genocide. However, many genocides have taken place since the formation of the United Nations (i.e. the Bosnian genocide). Both genocides began as simple misconception or dislike between peoples but ended in tragic and unnecessary murder. The Holocaust and the Bosnian genocide had many similarities and differences in their course of events. Unfortunately, genocides like the Jewish Holocaust and the Bosnian genocide still continue to happen today.
When people hear genocide they normally think of the Holocaust which was the persecution of Jews by the Nazi’s. It took place in the Ottoman Empire between the years of 1914 to 1918 (“Armenian” Armenian). It started when the “Young Turks” took control of the government (Beecroft). The Holocaust and Armenian genocide are similar in the reasons that started them, but they are different in who was involved and how the two genocides were executed.
