Discrimination in the film “NYPD stop and frisk” is typical and depicts the issues many minorities face in today's society. Police target minorities and make stereotypes against people of color.The video discussed issues that many argue about today such as stopping racial discrimination and the black lives matter movement. The video reminded me of the case of Trayvon Martin, whose life was taken away just because he was black and looked suspicious. This case caused rage and hate against police officers who discriminate against people of color. Since minorities have a low status in society they cannot defend themselves or get support from others.The only way they can protect themselves is by recording police arrests.The NYPD departments claim that it is their job to stop crime before it happens but, in reality, they stop and arrest innocent men. I was surprised that police only stop minorities to get “numbers”. They are progressive and do not look at the color of the skin.They claim that they don't see color they just see people.In reality, they are just ignoring the realities of racism. Instead of claiming to be colorblind towards different groups, it's better to multicultural and recognize values and differences. Institutional racisms are the racist policies and discriminatory practices in schools or workplaces towards the people of color. Examples of institutional racism are slavery and racial profiling. Structural racism is the unjust racist patterns and practices that play out across institutions that make our society.
