Everyone has his or her own opinion of what the definition of health is – some believe health is simply the absence of disease, while others believe that health only involves a healthy mind or physical health – these opinions are not wrong, however, there is a more correct definition of health. In my opinion, the correct definition of health is all of the above – if a person only has good mental health but they are riddled with physical illness and disease, they are not healthy; similarly, if a person is completely absent of physical illness and disease yet they have several mental health issues, they are not healthy. Health involves the whole person – not just certain aspects of their being. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the definition of health is, “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” This is …show more content…

The population’s health is determined by their environment and circumstances, therefore I believe that the two determinants of health that influence my personal health most are my socioeconomic environment as well as my level of education. When a person has a higher socioeconomic status, they are more likely to be in good health. There is an obvious link between socioeconomic status and all members of the family. A study at the University of Melbourne revealed that women with lower socioeconomic status are less likely to use natural methods of feeding their newborn babies – an issue that greatly impacts the newborn’s ability to fight off illness due to an immunity deficit.
