Ever since I was little, I was eager to learn. I have an endless desire to learn, whether it is trivial information or textbook knowledge. Fueled by a love of learning, I have a endless drive to generate positive change. As long as I can remember, I have sought to improve my surroundings and to help those in need. At age ten, I organized a neighborhood food drive to aid victims of hurricane Katrina. Throughout my life, I organized drives to collect supplies for the less fortunate and crafted inspirational items to distribute to hospital patients. Extensive research preceded my actions, so that I could learn more about the daily struggles and what would benefit them most. The success of a team comes not from the strength and abilities of the individual person, but the capability of the team to work together. Through my medical hardships I was actively involved with my swim team: high school, club, and now the college level. Although I could not participate to the extent I desired, I have always been an avid team member. I contributed to the success of the team by motivating others when I push myself in and out of the pool, cheering when I couldn't race, organizing activities, and tutoring team mates. As I learned through my medical experiences, no doctor knows everything about the human body, and doctors must work as a team to diagnose conditions and contribute to the advancement of the medical field. I admire doctors who are willing to listen, who treat patients with respect, and who allow the patient to have input in their health care. I am lucky because many of my doctors became my teachers. They spent time and effort outside of their professional obligations, teaching me about my condition and human anatomy as a whole. During ultra sound guided injections, my doctor showed me how me muscles moved on the monitor, where nerves laid, when the probe penetrated my muscles, and the proper depth to disperse the medicine.
