Recommended: Managing time is a challenge for collegiate learners

During my senior year of high school, while all my classmates discovered their dream schools and committed easily, I struggled to find my ideal school. When I discovered Savannah College of Art and Design I thought I had found my perfect fit. Throughout grammar and high school, I had participated in the drama club's plays, as well as performed with the Charleston Stage Company, and when people told me that I was a good actress and enjoyed my performance, I began to think that acting might be my calling. Everyone strives to find their passion in life that drives them. I had trouble finding that devotion, so I was elated when I thought I had finally found mine. With the thought of becoming an actress on my mind, I sought out the drama teacher at school and asked him if he would provide me with acting lessons. A strength of mine is that when I commit myself to something, I commit myself fully and strive to be the best I can. As a child, perfectionism was …show more content…

Throughout the school year I took acting lessons from my drama teacher two hours a day, every day of the week. When I finally left for SCAD that summer, I felt fully prepared and ready for the future. Consequently a semester in, I found myself doubting who I was and whether if acting was what I really wanted or whether I was settling for something I thought I wanted. With these thoughts in mind, I gave the second semester another try, and by the end, I was firm in my belief that acting was just not for me.

As a result, I withdrew from SCAD and took the spring semester off with hope to discover what I really wanted to do and to find a job. A few weeks into what some would call a 'soul searching' mission, I realized it was okay to be unsure of what I wanted to do and I have plenty of time to figure it out.
