My Father's Role In The Vietnam War

A personal experience is my father’s experiences in the Vietnam War. He always talks about the war and his role in it. I decided to do some personal research to find out why. We first talked about the war in general to establishing a context for political, military, and social; at home, in Vietnam, and the what he did. Throughout this interview I will obtain specific details about his role stationed at AFB in Georgia, what he saw, did, and felt. The reflection of both good and bad times was recounted, through stories he told, and pictures and artifacts examined, and I will be able to make connections, linking details to context, that enabled me to have more of an understanding of how the war had changed his life. He only had one sister who he grew up with him. His family was of pride and wanted the best for their children. His grandmother was an entrepreneur who own her own home and rented out rooms, his mother was a hairdresser, who worked out of her home. My father stated; As a man., It was required that he took care of the family, once he got of age, therefore after my father graduated from High school he went into the Army. In the Army he was a parachute jumper who was brought to an unknow location to jump out of planes. As our conversation continued he stated; “Going into the Army was the best thing he did, because it thought him discipline and of how to live effectively.” After five years in the Army the participant left and attended a HBCU and received a B.S. in Mathematics. After graduating he taught high school students for over thirty years. Throughout his time teaching high school he was able to receive his carpentry license, electrical license and bought rental property. Now that my father is in his late eighties, he states; “Looking back on his life has no regrets on the decisions he has made throughout his life”. My father experiences with family, school, friends, neighbors, or work has led him to a lifetime of fulfillment and appreciation of his accomplishments. His day to day experience is getting up in the morning, his teeth, shaving, putting on his clothes, his socks, and belt. After the participate, clothes are put on and hygiene is completed, my father goes outside and walks around in his yard. The yard is full of old lawnmowers he repairs for himself and his friends. Once he finishes roaming in the yard, he comes back into the home and eat breakfast. After, breakfast he gets into his car and go by his friend’s house for four to five hours. My father will get home around five or six o’clock. The dedication of getting up early in the morning
