The story of my life begins on the 16th of May in 1987 at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. It was evident to me that growing up in a single parent home with two kids was going to be a difficult road to travel. As I began school I gradually developed my love of learning and used this passion to escape the difficulties of life outside the classroom. Though my earliest educational journey had resulted in me attending 6 different school, as I looked to obtain my High School Diploma, I continued working on my goal of going to college. By my senior year, I was still undecided as to which school I would like to attend for my collegiate career and how I was going to be able to pay for my education.

I am currently on course for a University Studies degree with my three concentrations being Personal Financial Planning, Organizational Leadership, and Human Resource Development. Although, these courses are very different from my initial major—accounting—they each have concepts and theories of which I can infuse with my understanding of the business world. Also, in most businesses each of my three concentrations play a key role in the development of the company. The transition from Rawls College of Business to University Studies has humbled me tremendously. I can honestly say that when I began at Texas Tech University I was completely narrow minded to the options and routes of which I could take to achieve my ultimate goal of having a well-paying, stable career. However, as I continued my collegiate career in the face of adversity I have found it helpful to keep my ideas and thoughts focused on the goals that I set for myself upon my first year in attendance at Texas Tech. The key to reaching my goal of obtaining a business degree is to remain resilient. The road maybe a little longer than I had originally had plan for but I have to “weather the storm” if I want to have any chance at achieving my goal. I have recently obtained a job at Buffalo Wild Wings as a Full-Time Server. The collaboration of work and school will have a lasting effect on me moving forward. For example, in my personal financial planning courses we are constantly discussing various money management resources and tools that we can use now that can help us later in life as we look to make bigger purchases. Also, my having a “college job” allows me to interact with the locals of Lubbock, TX in a way that I might not have
My journey to higher education spans 24-years and combines two passions, teaching and EMS (emergency medical services). This journey began in 1986 with a suburban kindergarten class of 25 in Memphis, TN. Eleven years later no longer am I teaching school-age children; instead, I am delivering training programs to EMS providers as well as the medical community. Today, I combine both passions to offer students authentic experiences through which to obtain proficient skills in written and oral communications, critical and analytical thinking, problem solving, as well as in negotiation and conflict resolution skills as they prepare for rewarding
In my household, from the time I was in Kindergarten, my mother expected academic excellence and nothing less. With her help I was an A student, Science fair grand champion, Young authors winner, Community helpers member, Young academic role model and more. At the age of eleven I lost my mother to Invasive Breast Cancer. Being academically successful was her goal for me and up to that point in her life she instilled the values of education and hard work ethic into me. At that young age I had to decide how I was going to continue being academically successful in school and what were my educational goals for myself. Since that day every school year I ask myself that same question,and this year being my senior year it’s more prominent than ever. My short term educational goals are: to apply and be admitted to 4 universities, maintain a 3.7 gpa, pass AP calc and English exam’s with a score of 4 or higher, and graduate with honors.
One of the greatest accomplishments of my life is earning college degree as a first generation graduate. With complex family background, my parents always focused on education that they interpret it as “an infinite opportunity if you work hard with good ethics, do no harm, and stay compassionate towards the dream.” Earning Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Connecticut (UConn) and passing NCLEX was the beginning of my proud achievements and a journey of lifelong compassionate care.
The meaning to this quote is remembering the past and wanting to go back either to switch the past or live in the past once again. To quote really relates to my high school journey because there was a point where I didn't care for school, and I slacked off by not turning in assignments, and not doing homework. If I could go back in time to freshman year I would make better life decisions. I would take my classes seriously.
My college career started with me just going to school to take PE classes while neglecting my main required core classes and always pushing them aside without any urgency to succeed in finishing school. A couple of years would go by with little to no progress and lack of motivation to succeed in finishing my college required classes. Soon landing a career oriented job and finding myself dropping out of college to focus on my work career. From this point and time I would learn the importance of school and the value of finish college through my years of experience at work. This awareness of value in finishing college would motivate me to want to go back to school. Soon I would find myself at American River College counseling center. Here I was coming back to school unsure of myself and in an environment where I previously never found success in school. After meeting with my counselor I was recommended to take a college success course. This course is part of a program called the Accelerated College Education (ACE). Because I was able to learn along the years being out of school the importance of gaining an education I gained a new motivation for school, signed up for this ACE program, and enroll in the college success
I’m a student at Tompkins Cortland Community College this is my first semester as a college student. I plan to go to college for four years and only be at TC3 for this one semester, then transfer to a four year school. College has grown around the world more than ever and more people are attending college more than ever. I have chosen to go to college because of the rewards after graduation. Yes it is another four years of school but by getting more education and an extended degree gives me more opportunities for better jobs and more money. The career I have chosen to study is business administration. I am hoping that it takes me to a great job managing a company or possibly being an accountant.
College education is an integral element that is effective to students’ social, mental and the career because it nurtures one to produce the best in life. College education is key to shaping student in tandem with the global demands that touches on career ingredients vital in securing meaningful employment. As a student pursuing college education, I stand to gain from these benefits. College education has been perceived to be expensive, but the fact that it will provide many benefits should not be ruled out. Every successful project or action undertaken has to come with a cost. a state that I acknowledge as I embark on my higher education. In high school, I was among those students who always indicated that I will be going college. However, unlike most people I seem to meet these days I did not know that I wanted to be a doctor. When it was time to head off to college, I was still unsure of what I wanted to pursue. As most college freshmen, I did not know what major best suits my personality. I desired a career that would define who I am and a career that is self-gratifying. However, the path that I should follow was unclear to me. Because of my uncertainty I failed to see that my parents dream became my reality. As I began my college experience as a nursing student, I felt somewhat out of place. I realized that my reason for majoring in nursing was my parents' influence on me. They wanted me to believe that nursing is right for me. I always knew I wanted to go into the medical field, but I felt that I needed to know how to choose a medical specialty that I feel is right for me. My first step was to change my major. I chose to change my major to biology. My love for science led me to this decision. I began to explore the opportunities open to biology students.
Writing has never been my strong point, and because of this; it is with clenched teeth that I begin to take my final exam. My decision towards going back to school was influenced by my future in United States Army being at stake. Furthermore, I had spent over twelve years defending my beloved soil and three teaching other how they too can be part of our nation’s finest, but now because of lack of education I was being told that I was not good enough to be part of something that I had grown to love.
As the end of my senior year in high school approached, I had to make an important decision. What school was I going to spend the next few years of my life at? When the financial aid packages arrived, I was torn between two colleges. After sitting down with my mother and discussing the advantages and disadvantages of both schools, I came to my final decision. It seemed like a year ago I was imagining what college life would be like and suddenly before my eyes, I would be a college student in a matter of four months.
We will be discussing my educational journey that talks about my endeavors as me being a student, and I’ll be writing my positive road of how my experience was with middle school, elementary school and finally high school, also I will be talking more about how I got inspired to be a great student and set a good example to my colleagues, after that I’ll be talking more about my current English level in college, and how I was picked into that class, and what are the reasons that made me join the college of MSJC, additionally I’ll be going to delve more into my choice in life, or what do I need to do by going to a higher education, whether it’s long term or short-term , and finally why I chose to join this course.
My educational journey has been like a roller coaster. I have been in the worst spot of my life time. Where I hate going to school but, also think about my father education. My career goal is one of my most important in my life to better myself than I am today tomorrow I will better than yesterdays.
My journey as a student has always been focused on the path to college and success. Before I even set foot in kindergarten my mother, a college dropout, always told me that “honor roll wasn’t an option” and that I would be attending college in the future and achieving a degree. Most of the time I made these requirements. Most of the time I was awarded honor roll or had a newly edited list of colleges to attend, but sometimes life got in the way of my dreams of achieving success.
My academic background consists of two phases. My first college attempt, 1997-2002, was unsuccessful due largely to distraction caused by my father’s illness. The second phase started in 2009 with a new major, Consumer Economics, which better suited my interests. I was able to narrow the scope of my degree further and focused on policy creation, analysis, and implementation. During this phase, I earned a 3.7 GPA while working full-time at the University of Georgia. Although it took longer than normal to complete my undergraduate education, it is to date my greatest success; however, my educational growth is not finished. I have goals and ambitions that inspire me to continue onward until I am in possession of my graduate degree. My journey to a college education has been filled with experiences that have stunted but not stopped my growth. I am confident that, come what may, I will accomplish the goals that I’ve set. It is this perseverance that qualifies me as an excellent candidate for the Master’s in Public Administration at Columbus State University.
College in the United States is rapidly changing: more students are attending college, many are doing so online and at community colleges, which is making people question the cost of a traditional college education. It is my belief, along with three-fourths of entering freshman, that those students who are attending a traditional college are viewing college as an economic investment and that the reason to attend college is to get a good job (Bok 281). Part of that economic investment is meant for students to develop themselves. In my case I attended a tradition four year college to grow as a person and to give myself the best chance of getting a good job right out of college. A college education should provide a balance of personal exploration and job preparation because generally people are going to college to grow as a person and become prepared for the professional world.
