My College Admissions Essay: My Experience As A Professional Assistant

I am Suhail Basalama, an international student from Yemen, a poor, war-torn country that most people have not even heard about. I was born in Sana'a, the capital city of Yemen, on the third of October, 1995. Coming from a modest family, my father had to quit studying medicine in Sana'a University to offer life necessities for me and my mother, so he traveled to work abroad in 2000. Although my mother quit school in the ninth during her pregnancy of me, she does perceive the value of education. As an only child, my parents took special care of my education. At the age of six, I entered a preliminary school. My mother used always to encourage me, so I gained such self-confidence that helped me rank the first in that class and thereafter. Nevertheless, my recent experiences added many other interests to my life, such as political science, philosophy, history, and economics. In addition to the scientific courses I take at Hinds Community College, I take other classes in humanities to widen my scope of thinking and my perspective of the world. I also love to read books in all the areas I just mentioned. Thus, I have been thinking about taking a double-major in Electrical Engineering and Political Science. Due to the financial deficiency, I could not afford to study at a university and had to study at Hinds Community College in Mississippi. I find studying at college easy compared to what I had in the twelfth grade in Yemen. For instance, we took both Calculus I (Differentiation) and Calculus II (Integration) as parts of the mathematics curriculum of the twelfth grade. I believe that ease would not improve me in anyway, rather it would weaken my performance and make me a complacent person. Therefore, I believe that I must push my capabilities and faculties to their limits. This would be possible if I had the opportunity to join Texas A&M University. Although the $14,000 scholarship I receive from the Yemeni government is not sufficient for the tuition fees and the living expenses, it can help me achieve my goals in case I won the Out-of-state Tuition Waiver at your university. Personally, I have vowed my life and my capabilities to the benefit and the interest of the people of my country, Yemen. Because I have only one life, I do not want to waste it achieving some personal selfish goals, such as being wealthy. The people of my country need us, me and other Yemeni students, because nobody else would know or help a country as its own citizens do. I consider my government scholarship as a debt from the 27 Yemenis that I must pay back in the form of effort and dedication. Accordingly, I would like to assure
