#8 3B College Essay Rough Draft Sometimes, it takes nothing to create something. At one period in time, I never knew what programming or even program was. But, I have always had a fondness for science.I strongly feel that there is a point in time, where you have to do something you usually would never do.In these times, you can find out what you are truly made of no matter what anyone else thinks; for me it was robotics and how I got my programming skills, to eventually rise to the top and becoming the robotics captain. This story, my story, takes place my 9th-grade year. I remember the day exactly; the day seemed to be dragging heavier and more ponderous as they neared its end. After attending the meeting, I found it a tad bit intimidating. …show more content…
But my time felt very restricted. To my surprise, no one knew how to program, and no one stood up to carry the responsibility. Until my hand shot up I nervously said,"I'll do the programming." That's how it all began. Soon, my skills would grow and develop. I had begun to apply what I learned to other programs. Half a school year had passed and before you knew it, I was the unofficial captain. I was always given a project to complete. I even designed all of our robots. Even though we lost the competition we all gained a short bit more knowledge, later to be used and applied for next year. Yet another year, straight away I had been given the caption title. But I didn't find out from the teacher see I missed the meeting. All my teammates had told me about it. I was assigned a new job this year. My programming skills had progressed to the point to where I could teach programming. That is exactly what I did I was In charge of making sure all the newcomers knew how to program. You did a different perspective on something once you can teach
...rst year. Because it refreshed my memory. It also help me learn more because, because a lot of the classes I have went to I never taken them before and its teaching me something new. For the second year I would like to have more training classes that will help us further in life. Any new skill can only be a positive thing. My training has caused me to take closer look at myself and improve in areas in which I was lacking.
As a shy and relatively inexperienced freshman, I signed up for the program as the only underclassmen on the team of ten students. I bumbled along, learning about design and how to use the machines. I made my full share of mistakes and then some, but by the end of the program, I was gaining some real experience. Although our robot did not fare very well in the competition our first year, my learning process was underway, and I knew that I had found my place.
Lest a whole new generation of programmers grow up in ignorance of this glorious past, I feel duty-bound to describe, as best I can through the generation gap, how a Real Programmer wrote code. I'll call him Mel, because that was his name.
As I opened the front door of the IBM Building, my next chapter in life began. My eyes widen as I observed my teacher writing code on the smartboard. Uneasiness and fear rushed down my spine. I was the only person among fourteen girls without prior knowledge of coding. I spent eight hours in a confined room learning how to code. My computer science teacher appointed assignments in HTML and Python.
Receiving a higher education has been a lifelong goal for me. All my life I wanted a job saving animals, as I got older I knew being a veterinarian is my all-time life objective. Although, I am currently a veterinary technician I need to achieve a higher educational background to completely reach my goal in life. Having a college degree gives me the nostalgia that I long for; being able to say that I’m in college achieving my goals as becoming a veterinarian is gratifying to me. Being a role model to my daughter is also extremely important; having her see that anything is possible if you put your mind to it, she will see that life is difficult and there will be constant road blocks but with determination and hard work success is within reach. After completing college I will be able to get a better job and also receive a better pay check. Going to college for a higher education level is important to many, but not all. For me, going back to college will help me achieve so many of my goals that I have longed for.
I attended every single meeting to grasp as much knowledge I could comprehend and with the help of my friend Patrick, the leading captain of the club, I greatly increased my understanding of the field. With his claimed status I stood by him a lot of the time for which he taught me everything he knew. After a short time, the acquired mastery I obtained led to the approval of the captain and senior members of my credibility. From this came my new duty of assisting others in need of help. I bettered other members’ skills of tool usage and knowledge for wiring of the different parts of the robot.
It was a warm April day and all of the students were let out of school for the day. I went home to finish packing with the help of my parents making sure that I had everything and I wasn 't forgetting. I was excited for a week now to go on the trip to Washington D.C. with the whole 8th grade class for a week.
So you think that programing is different than learning. You might think the same as my grandma that programing is something where things are just drilled into you like people who are members of cults. Well when your teacher stood over you desk in elementary and do drilled you on the multiplication tables was that not programming? Would you know that 1x5 does not equal 10 if everyone you ever met said that it did. Another argument my grandma used was my little cousin and how when he runs into a wall he learns that it hurts so he doesn’t do it again. (Well actually he does it because he has a hard head). Yet a professor in Calgary builds robots that do not even contain a microprocessor yet it can learn. He builds them out of spare part from broken electronics such as walkman’s.
When I was in middle school, I had totally no idea of what Computer Science is, but I was pretty proficient in using computers at that age. The only thing that I knew about Computer Science is that one of my aunts is in that field and that’s all, nor of my parents are in that major. Not until in High School that I got the sense of what programming is like. I was taught basic simple codings and I really enjoyed it and thought that the class was actually quite fun. But the class didn’t give me any sense of the important real-world applications of Computer Science. Not until recently as I am in the Computer Science major, I started to really have the real idea and to gain real passion for the field. Computer Science is not all about programming.
Within that year, I learned more about myself than I did in college, and I realized that I have always worked a lot with children since I was a kid. Before my
I was dumbfounded to know that games are nothing but programs. Curious to know how to program I developed a serious interest in Computers. This keen interest in mathematics along with a strong liking for computers, and particularly programming, prompted me to choose engineering with Computer Science as my major. This decision gave me ample opportunity to consolidate my creative energies and harness my technical

My undergraduate preparation at the Computer Science of my University has given me a very substantial knowledge of the basic areas of Computer Science. Any amount of learning in Computer Science would be incomplete without hands on experience of Programming. In a world where...
I was able to overcome many problems and challenge myself in different aspects. At the very beginning of the year, I was very sensitive and having a bad experience meant a bad life to me.
