When I was in high school, I achieved the Most Valuable Swimmer award two different years. The two years I received this award was my first year on the swim team and my last year on the swim team. This achievement is important to me because it was the only thing I have done besides academics that showed me that if I worked hard and was dedicated there would be something to show for it. I have always been so focused on school, but swim allowed me to go outside of my comfort zone and talk to people. What pushed me the most was that swim is both an individual and team sport and I loved both aspects of it. I maintained an A average up until my eleventh grade year, by doing so, I was recognized as a member of the National Honors Society. This current year, I was recognized by Augusta University in receiving an award for academic achievement. The year of 2013 I was awarded the Most Valuable Cheerleader on the Washington Wilkes Football-Competitive cheerleading squad. As for leadership positions, I was elected 4-H president in the fifth grade and student council president my eleventh grade year.
I have been swimming year-round on a club team since the age of six and when I was younger improving came relatively easily. However, around age 13, I hit a training plateau despite having the same work ethic and focus that I had previously had. I grew to despise swimming and at points I wanted to quit. However, unlike Junior, I had role models and mentors who were positive influences on me and who helped me to overcome this challenge. Primarily, I had several of my best friends on the team who convinced me to keep persevering and to not simply quit the sport that I loved so much just because I was no longer dropping time. For example, every day I watch my close friends Lizanne and Cate come to practice and give it their all, regardless of the numerous injuries and medical issues that plagued their swimming career; their positive outlook and dedication motivated me to try even harder than I had before. Moreover, I had by parents, something that Junior did not have; my parents were always there to support me after yet another disappointing meet reminding me that “you get five minutes for a win and five minutes for a lost”. My parents where my voice of reason as I tried to work through my issues; they were always there to encourage me, but also were very honest with me
I am a runner. I was selected to be a cross country captain for my senior year and I had set myself a realistic goal of being one of the top five finishers at the state meet in the fall. I never had the thought that I could not do it; I knew I was going to be up there with the best. When the state meet came and I traveled with the team as captain, that race became one of the most memorable of my cross country career but not for the reasons I expected.
The second year of the competition, I was only one of two returning students. I took an active role in recruiting new students, and our membership doubled. It was a complete role reversal for me because all of a sudden I was the experienced team member. We finished fifth out of forty teams at the regional competition, and at the national tournament, we placed in the top third.
I have been a four year letter-winner in volleyball and basketball. Athletics have been a crucial part of developing my character and work ethic. In sports, you must work together with your team to reach your goals. Trust and communication skills are vital and are tested every day. The failure and setbacks I have faced through sports have helped me to believe in myself and have the self-confidence that it takes to be successful in athletics and in life. As a senior captain of the volleyball and basketball teams, my leadership has improved tremendously as high school has progressed. Being a leader holds me accountable and I aim to be a role model for younger teammates on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.
Another accomplishment that stood out to me was the founding and development of my Berks County Chemistry Outreach Club. Recruiting and managing my club members during freshman year was especially challenging. I remember struggling to create short and simple lesson plans, while keeping the students engaged and active. I recall students having difficulties with the concepts and theories. To help them review the material, I posted the meeting summaries on my website. Finish, Finish, Go, and Go you just set the new world record. Every four years lots of people gather around a pool cheering for Olympians. It is a very noisy place. A lot of Olympians that are part of the summer Olympics are very athletic, they swim all year around. The swimming Olympic history and background is very interesting. They have done so many new things over that past couple of years. They come out with new rules every year to make things more fair and challenging. There are a lot of events and tons of records that have been broke. A lot of Olympians have set future goals to stride for. I was swimming the 200 meter fly I was at a really good time when I had 50 meter sprint left at the end all I could think about was I’m going to set the new world record. Olympic swimming is a very fun sport it is very athletic. Every year in the summer time every one always sits around a TV watching this it is very famous in America. Swimmers from all around the world come and here and compete. There is a lot of competition there I have found out a lot about the history of swimming. There are a lot of events and tons of records that have been broke. A lot of Olympians have set future goals to stride for.
I am very proud of all my achievements listed, but I am most proud of my achievements earned through my cheerleading career. I instantly fell in love with the sport of Allstar Cheerleading in the seventh grade after growing up as a competitive gymnast. Although before high school, I believe that it is worthwhile to mention the teams I was a part of in 2013. One of my teams won several province-wide and national competitions, including the CheerExpo National Championship, where we earned the second highest score of the entire competition with approximately 115 teams competing. In the same year, we also traveled to Ocean City, Maryland, where I competed at the Reach the Beach International Championship as a crossover on both high level teams.

One accomplishment that is important to me was landing a lead role and performing in my high school’s theatre production of “Annie”. I auditioned for the musical with the certainty that I was not going to land a part because I felt like my singing voice and my acting skills were not good enough, but I still auditioned because the theatre teacher asked me to since I was an extra in the previous musical and she knew I had some potential. Surprisingly I got a callback and landed a lead role. I felt proud of myself because I stepped out of my comfort zone and actually accomplished something by doing this.
Although I juggle through many activities in high school, I vividly remember the thrill of my debut athletic competition. I was the smallest and youngest member of the group, and I had to compete with mature athletes. Despite being the youngest, I was not intimidated, instead I was motivated to strive hard and sprint with all my energy in an attempt to secure a winning position. Outside my academic pursuit, I also participate in sports. I play volley ball and baseball, and I regularly take part in the track and field athletics events.

Involvement in sports has also meant that competitiveness and team-skills have become a part of my lifestyle, but I simply believe that I have a lot of patience and the willingness to learn and accept every challenge that comes my way.
I dip my toes in—feels cold. My nerves rise up and spread like fire throughout my body while I watch—while I wait. Stomach hurts. All those butterflies clash and crowd. They come every time that I race—it never fails. There is so much noise—the splash of water, talking, yelling, whistling, cheering.
The greatest achievement in my life would have to be my success in the sport of football. I started playing the game at the age of eight. It stuck with me throughout my life until now. During a football game there are numerous amounts of dynamic situations to be involved with. There are so many crucial actions that take place in the matter of seconds. In a certain instance in my life , the game had a strong impact on my life. It took place my senior year against our rivals, the best team in the district. That Monday we began preparing for the coming Friday. It was a typical week until I woke up Wednesday morning. I was routinely late for school running around the house. On my way out the door the phone brought me to an abrupt stop. Turning around, I started to sprint to the phone. A few steps into it, I crushed my little toe on the leg of my couch. Face down on the carpet, I proceeded to scream in pain. Answering the phone quickly got check off my things to do list. As soon as I could regain my sanity I hopped over to the couch and forgot about school. My toe suddenly turned black and swollen. It was the worst coincidence that could’ve happened to me. I went to the hospital later that day, where I heard that my foot was broken and I couldn’t play.
