Leadership is about being versatile and being flexible enough to be both extroverted and introverted when situation calls for it. Leadership is also about influencing others and providing a greater meaning to shared values. I lead and follow best when my relationships with people have a high level of openness and trust. A leader should possess self-confidence and versatility. I believe that leadership evolves from those people who are willing to learn, grow and develop from those who participate in their vision.
No matter what cause your leading you must be able to other to not only follow but believe in you and your cause. Inspire then so that they see the same goal/dream as you. You can invite other in by being genuine, original, new, or having the ability to put a fresh spin on old issues. No one wants to hear the same old solution for every problem. People are willing to try new and daring thing if they have the right leadership, this is why inspire so vital to good leadership.
To a certain extent, I consider leaders are born with the desire to lead exceptionally well and the ability to be open to learning from their mistakes and predominantly to learn from other individuals they are trying to lead. Leaders inspire, rather than direct. They coach, encourage, and guide. Effective leaders earn agreement with the people about what has to be done. Leaders in my opinion are driven by stepping forward when no one else wants to, opportunity, wanting to make a change, and standing up for the better.
Another base for a strong leadership is to bring out all the capabilities of your people by making them enjoy the team spirit. A good leader should seek responsibility and take responsibility for his actions. Also the leader should ensure that the tasks given are u... ... middle of paper ... ...itive attitude At last all the leaders should have a positive attitude towards their people and work. Also positive communication should be kept as it helps to create loyalty and mutual exchange of ideas and attitudes. For me leadership means more than just being called a leader.
A leader should not be self-absorbed and should instill leadership in others that benefit the whole organization. When a leader creates leaders in others it allows them to delegate tasks throughout the organization. The key to delegation is to identify the strengths of the team, and capitalizing on them. Delegating tasks to others is also a trust builder, and allows a leader to show the team that he/she believes in them to get the job done. Trust is a very valuable quality that a leader can use to mange their organization.
These behavioral traits are essential in being a successful leader. Organizations need leaders that can work with their employees, build team work and be open to new ideas, (Lawler, 2003). In order for progress to be made, employees need to believe in their leader, and in turn, the leader needs to believe in their employees. Trust is obtained through mutual respect, building that bond of commitment to insure organizational success, (Lawler, 2003). The employees will follow a leader that promotes a positive attitude and enjoys expressing their ideas and stories.
It doesn’t matter what you do, leadership has an impact on your life in some way or another. To me, the definition of leadership would be a person who chooses to lead. Someone who is confident in there decisions, works well with others and it capable of motivating people to take on tasks that they might normally find impossible. They also have to be someone that people respect and would be willing to listen to. Leadership also means that you have to take a risk.
As a leader I believe that I should be open to everyone’s ideas in a group and not just my own. Someone may have a more logical idea that works better than mine, so I should not shoot down someone’s ideas if I do not agree with them. These characteristics will be very helpful in the leadership roles I get if I use them to the best of my ability. Two leadership styles that I would like to use when I lead would be
Leaders are looked up on by their subordinates and feel important. They can take an organization that is struggling, or a follower looking for guidance and show them the right direction they must go to improve. They have the knowledge and smarts to motivate and guide people to feel better about them selves and want to work together. Leadership is more a process of qualities one must possess, and leaders must not be afraid to make changes but instead realize when the time is necessary for change. An effective leader is one who identifies the right job that needs to be done, influences the right people at the right time to do the job, and gets it done in the right ways (Manktelow, 2005, pg.
At some point in each person life, they will be required to lead others. For some this can be an exciting thought, while for others it can provoke fear and questions of capability. No matter a person’s reaction to this inevitable reality the unanimous response would be that generally people want to lead others well. In order to be prepared to lead people it is valued for a person to know what qualities can be found in an effective leader. Important characteristics a good leader has been shown to possess are being caring, innovative, and responsible.
