Conflict The suspense and excitement of a story is conflict. It helps the plot move along in many ways. It creates and structures the rising action, climax, falling acting and eventually unfolds the conclusion of the story. It can purposes a problem between someone or something to create a solution. It also, engages the reader and can make them relate to the story or character. Conflict can additionally can make the story interesting by changing the character and giving suspense to the resolution. A book or story with no conflict is like gum with no flavor, boring. The best stories have a conflict that can grab the reader and keep the story interesting by changing or giving the character a problem to find a solution to. In the story “The Most Dangerous Game” Rainsford was given a conflict that he had to find a solution to. Rainsford fell out of a yacht and swam in the direction of the gunshots that he heard from the distance. Eventually he met with with General Zaroff who hunted humans because he finds that animals don't give him a challenge.“I had to invent a new animal to hunt” he said. “A new animal? Your joking (34)”. Many real world conflicts are put into books to give the reader a connection with the character and/or story. An example of a real world conflict that can be put in a book is forced marriages. In the book “Written in the Stars” Nailia is a Pakistani-American who doesn't have the choice of her husband. “You can choose what you want to do when you grow up, the type of shoes you want to buy, how long you want you hair to be. But you husband that's different...We choose your husband for you (11)”. In many countries the parents choose their child’s husband or wife. In that case many people in that situation would enjoy to read a book about something they would be able to relate
