1.)In the beginning of the story the family Is gathered next to the fire with the old soldier playing chess.Everyone became Interested In the soldiers life stories, At first he was not interested In disclosing information about this monkey's Paw. The soldier told the family the story about the paw and how much misfortune it had caused him.Then he goes to toss it into the fire.But the father was willing to take the gamble and save the monkey's paw. The father has the personality of a gambler or risk taker to me at this point.He was also desperate.

4.)The old soldier throws the monkey's paw into the fire. He does this because it has bought upon him a life of misfortune and regret.
5.)In this passage I feel bad for the old couple but the mother was desperate for her son back, while the father probably wanted his son back but was afraid of the monkey's paw after seeing what it was capable of doing. so he was relieved when they waited so long and nothing else had happened at this point.But the mother was still hopeful.

She was watching the mysterious movements of a man outside, who, peering in an undecided fashion at the house appeared to be trying to make up his mind to enter. This passage gave me a feeling of eariness for me. All i can think of is in the movies how the doctor paces back and forth when he sometimes doesn't know how to bring bad news to the family.So by then i knew ahead of time that it had to be bad news due to the stranger having a hard time approaching the home.

With this passage I felt a feeling of eagerness for Mrs.White. I knew automatically that she wanted nothing else more than to have her son again.So this gives you a hint but makes you wonder if that is what she is going to wish for.
