"The internet is something that most people are connected to and use from looking at funny pictures on social media sites for storing private and sensitive information like medical records. People’s internet content shows a lot about someone and who they really are and that is something most people would like to keep private. However, can anyone, specifically the US government, access or monitor your internet content? Well, the simple answer is sometimes. The reasons for this vary through different levels of the government, from the local, state, and the federal government. To start off, what would be the reason the US government would want to monitor internet content? The obvious answer is for security purposes, this includes preventing incidents to investigate the cause of. The first thought that comes to mind when the local government gets involved with monitoring internet content is the police searching for some type of evidence for an investigation. To further explain, the state government is more concerned about who gets to monitor your internet content, in simple terms, it is about your privacy. Each state has a different act regarding what internet providers must do in regards to your internet history, searches, and personal information.
