Among the many great lessons I have learned on my journey to adulthood, and likely the most important, is that my job as a child of God is to be as loving and giving to the world as I can be within my own limits. The person who instilled this ideology in me is the largest and most prominent influence in my life. I attribute the person I have become to the contributions of my momma. Making sacrifices is synonymous to, Momma.At three years old my father was no longer a part of my life, and she made the decision to sacrifice a large part of herself for my brothers and me by dedicating almost the next two decades of her life to teaching, disciplining, and mentoring. It is this philosophy which I will take with me in my first days as an independent, through to the first days living without my momma there to instruct me any further. Looking back on when parenting in my eyes was paying for field trips and cooking dinner and now, I realize that there’s so much more to it than love and protection. The goal in raising a child is to educate them on how to navigate through this world with purpose and good intent. She taught me to want more out of life, and thus, I do not set goals to achieve them, but rather to surpass them. For example, I don’t just want to create new technology. My objective is to develop technologies specifically for communication-based media companies to even the playing field for African Americans. Newly developed technologies allow independent media companies within the emerging market to connect with their audiences and peers thus creating an economical powerhouse which competes directly with its larger counterparts to produce more diversified forms of media which truly represent diversity with the respective communities on a global basis. To achieve a goal such as this, I will strive to meet every step on the stairway there.
