Modern Day God/Goddess Project Reflection
I found this project educational and enjoyable. We were able to learn while keeping an open mind to creativity. This allowed me to really engage in this project since I felt it was interesting. It was a very neat way to learn about a specific god or goddess. Overall, more projects like this should be given out in all of my classes. I know these types of projects work very well with me as a student.
The goddess my group had chosen was Aphrodite. Each of us were blooming with ideas. This project allowed us to work on our collaboration skills. I think it was easier to gain knowledge this way than it would have been if we had to simply write an essay on the goddess we chose. The group I was in worked very well. One of the ideas we had was to interview our modern day goddess. We put that in so we could incorporate more information about her onto our video. It also turned out quite funny. Another idea we had was the makeup studio since Aphrodite is the goddess of love and beauty. We all immediately fell in love with the idea so it ended up working out perfectly.
It was very neat how we were able to find a good balance between information and creativity. We found many clever ways to slide information into our commercial. After lots of collaboration and teamwork, we all agreed our final product was very similar to how we wanted it to turn out. We went into depth with learning about Aphrodite because of this project. We are able to relate information on her to aspects in the

modern day world. Finding this connection really strengthens our understanding of this knowledge and how much we are able to gain from it.
We accomplished and learned many things throughout this experience. I would not have changed the way I approached this assignment because I am quite proud of the final product. All in all, the best project are the ones we learn from and enjoy at the same time. I would definitely

    Mythology was very important to the men and women of ancient Greece. They worshipped the gods and goddesses, wrote poems about them, and based a great deal of art work off of them. The people of Greece looked to the gods and goddesses for help in all aspects of their lives; including health, agriculture, and war. Reading about Greek mythology can inform people about the society of Greece itself because the Greek gods were created by the people of Greece. Three main goddesses who were worshipped by the Greeks were Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite. These three goddesses represent three different types of women in Greek society. Sarah Pomeroy, author of Goddesses, Whores, Wives, and Slaves, believed that “the goddesses are archetypal images of human females, as envisioned by males” (8). Pomeroy understands the significance in the differences between Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite, and what those differences meant for the women of Greece who were required to follow three important rules. The first rule was for the women to live a life of domesticity and motherhood. This was very important to the men in the society. The women were the only ones able to bear children. Also, if they were forced to stay in the house, men could keep a greater control on their wives, and not have to worry about them having affairs. The second important trait was virginity until marriage. Its importance to the Greek culture lied in the fear of a woman’s power. The men of the society felt it best that a woman remained a virgin until she was married; however this same attribute was not required of a man.
