With the current minimum wages throughout the states, employees are unable to provide safe and comfortable housing for their families. An example of this would be in the state of California. As of January 2, 2018, the minimum wage for employees in California was $10.50 an hour (Division of Labor). These rates equally correlate with the increasing average price of housing in California. Today, the average home in California is priced at nearly two and a half times more than the average national home price of $180,000 (Taylor 3).
