Minimum Wage: A Case Study

357 Words1 Page

Single parents earning the minimum wage at 40 hours a week could not survive on just their weekly earning. My estimation shows that in order to afford healthcare and childcare a single parent would need to make $6.50 more than the minimum wage while only working 40 hours a week. In order to survive on this pay of $7.50/ hour, an adult would need to work a substantial amount of hours of overtime. Working the needed amount of hours a week is generally restricted by employers due to the extra cost associated with it. In my experience with working minimum wage jobs, I have noticed that my employers would start restricting my work hours once I got close to 40 hours in a week. Healthcare is generally not given to employees who work a minimum wage
