Nine out of ten Americans suffer from headaches. Many of them are caused by tension, eye strain and allergens. Headaches are bad enough for anyone, but there are some people who have the misfortune to suffer from migraines.

For anyone who’s ever had a migraine, you know that once it hits it’s impossible to do anything. The throbbing pain, nausea, vomiting, and light sensitivity from a migraine is enough to put anyone out of commission. The pain can last all day and can take an additional day to recover. Although there is not a way to completely cure a migraine, there are ways to stave one off and lessen the duration of pain. Here’s a few ways to combat migraines and take back your life.

Know the Trigger
Most people have migraine triggers. A trigger can be food, stress, lack of sleep, weather and more. The key is finding your trigger. Common food triggers migraine sufferers reported include alcohol, caffeine, chocolate, MSG, and artificial sweeteners. In addition to food triggers, lack of sleep, hunger and extreme stress will trigger a migraine. Avoiding your triggers as much as possible will help prevent the onset of a migraine. …show more content…

It’s more effective to get rid of the pain in its early stages. Often smaller headaches will proceed the actual migraine. Take your pain medication and relax when the smaller headaches appear.
