The Middle Ages are also known as the dark ages was a time between 500 CE and 1500
CE. when people think of the Middle Ages they think of knights and shining armor, but it's
actually not what people think, there are wars and disease everywhere in the Middle Ages. The
Middle Ages are locAted in Europe. Many people struggled with poverty or lack of food. Many
people died due to all this shortage of food and disease. Life was separated into a cast or as we
call it the feudal systems. There are kings,nobles,knights and peasants. Back in the Middle
Ages people were categorized by the feudal systems, there were peasants at the bottom and
there were Kings at the top.

This all started after the
western Roman Empire fell in 476 Ce. The man that started this was the king of the tribe called
the Franks, his name was Charlemagne. The church did not follow any of the laws that the kings
or nobles made, they went off on their on” ( Gravett 8). Clearly, feudalism was a way to organize
the villages in a different way.
Peasants were at the bottom of this feudal system in all villages or manors. Peasants or
also known as surfs were people that served on the noble land, they grew crops and they
made things for the nobles. they still got to eat, but only a little of what they grew for the nobles.
They wore the worst clothes they were not made from high quality materials . I know it must
stink to be a peasant, but there are a couple of good things like when the Knights are out
fighting the battles the peasants get to go into to the castle for protection so they don't get killed.
Peasants also can't leave their village without the noble or lord's permission (Gravett 12). All

Kings were the leaders
of all manors. They made all the rules and had the most power over all the power. All kings were
very rich and could do whatever they wanted. The thing is kings did not have the most direct
contact with his people, the nobles did because they were the owner of that individual land.
Most people would never even see the king most of the time, they wouldn't even know his name
which I think is very bad everyone should know their king's name. The only place that didn't
follow the king's laws was the church they made their own laws. The knights are the people in

KNIGHT At age seven a son of a noble family was sent to a nobleman or lord, often who was a relative. Here he was a page and taught how to ride a horse, and his manners. At the age of fourteen he was apprenticed to a knight. As the squire to the knight he would take care of his horse, help him put the knights armor on and keep it clean. In turn he was taught how to use a bow, carve meat, and other knightly skills. The squire would have to go into battle with the knight to help him when he was wounded or unhorsed. If the squire was successful he would be knighted at the age of 21. When there wasn't a war going on knight would have to practice, practice, and practice some more. They would wrestle, fight with blunt swords, do acrobatics, and also do sports like javelin and putting which is throwing a heavy stone as far as you can.

Many different classes of people existed in the Middle Ages. Each class had a certain and very different way of life than the other. Peasants in the Middle Ages had extremely difficult lives. Domestic life for the peasants during the Middle Ages was endured with many hardships and sacrifices, but in the end they were just everyday citizens doing what they had to in order to survive.
In the medieval times everything had an order to follow, a price that had to be paid, and a contract that had to be obeid. Each person had a rank, which decides on your lifestyle and future for you and your descendants to come. A serf was at the bottom of the pyramid, therefore they had to work at sunrise to sunset. The lords and the ladies lived conformably in their glorious castle, which was flooded with servants. Alot of things obviously had change, which is the more reason to learn more about our history.

When I think of the development of early Medieval European culture, after having read the chapter, along with references from a few websites, the first thing that comes to mind is Feudalism. Feudalism is the dominant social system of Medieval Europe, in which a group referred to as nobility exchanged the use of their land for military service. Feudalism seems to be a fundamental idea in the area of social order or an early form of systematic government. According to the text, it was adopted from the Roman custom of patronage.
Knights and their role in medieval society. Knights were an integral part of medieval society. They originally began with primitive warriors such as the Mongols who fought on horseback for added speed and power, but quickly advanced to chivalrous gentleman such as the Normans. Much has been written about medieval knights, with the most famous being a series of legends about King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. Arthur and his knights were the ultimate example of what a perfect knight should have been.
Some peasants were also surfs. A surf was someone who was bound to the land. Serfs could not leave the land without the lord’s permission. The nobles were almost always the ones who owned land, and the peasants worked on this land in exchange for a small portion of it, in a sense, rented out in exchange for the labor. Peasants often worked 16-hour days as long as they could see into the nighttime and got very bad nourishment. The noble was not interested in the health of the peasants working on his land, as there was a significant supply of others who were very willing to take his or her place.
There were two levels of people who did farming, peasant and lords or priest. Peasants were farmers who don’t have a lot of freedom like marry or sell. Lords or priest had freedom.
