In the article Escape from the Western Diet, Michael Pollan points out the many different concepts that contribute to obesity and disease in so many individuals and how breaking what he calls the “Western Diet” can curtail these issues. A western diet is one containing saturated fats, red meats, and junk food. Pollan advocates “we should simply avoid any food that has been processed to such an extent that it is more the product of industry than of nature,” (Pollan 424). People who are exposed to this diet made up of mostly processed, fatty foods are more prone to obesity, diabetes, heart disease and so forth.
