The marketplace brings together different people from all walks of life. It is more than just a place to buy the necessities of life. People are able to converge in this area to meet with one another to discuss their lives and that of others. Within in social dynamic women are place and ranked on a different caliber. The women of Les Halles play an important in the function and the maintenance of the marketplace arena. They prove the can bring about positive or negative change within the business sphere and they show the varied existence of women in the world through the lenses of the marketplace. She spends most of her time on the streets of Paris. She is in a constant state of buying and selling items in order to survive. She was one of the people that are thrown away. Also, at the beginning of the novel the woman who was shot in the street.The one thing that they do participate in is gossip. Madame Saget once spread the rumor that there was once a corpse in the butcher shop; which was true. Once it got out people, began not coming to the shop. Quenu thought that would be the end of his shop. People may think that she is just a woman but her words had a true impact that almost put someone out of business.
The role of women in the Les Salles is varied but highly important. They can impact true change and can be great business owners. Even for some their agency comes from owning their own business. They were seen selling various day to day food items. They varied existence of women in the marketplace is a reflective of attitudes toward women and how they viewed in the rest of the world. Women can produce their own agency by having their own business by means of a shop or a wagon. They can receive more of their agency if they were married because their husband could bring in more income than that
