I took a look at my other films and my credible sources and found that the Fairy godmother and Odysseus each had a different type of mentor but they didn’t have two types of mentors. As I looked into these different types of mentors I was curious to see how they affected the hero in different ways. In the movie Revenge Of The Sith when Palpatine turns vader into a sith and twisted his mind to kill the one he loved, once Vader learns that he killed padme is is angered for the rest of his life. That is an example of a dark mentor but what about the fairy godmother in Cinderella? The fairy godmother is a recurring mentor that affects the hero by giving them new information or training each step of the way. This differs from the other types of mentors because the other mentors give heros advice over a long journey or do not come back for long periods at a time. According to Prezi in an article titled Mentor Archetype “The mentor’s guidance and assistance helps the hero mature and gain the independence they will need to be successful on their quest.” This explains why mentors are so closely related to …show more content…

In every book or movie with a goal you will find a mentor along the way. I have gone back to some of my favorite movies and seen the mentors in the movie. In Blazing Saddles the mentor Jim helps Bart achieve the goal of saving his town from the bounty hunters. In the movie Trading places Billy was an inner mentor at the same time as being a hero. Mentors are also presented in books such as the Hunger games. Every movie or book has at least 1 thing in common, every single one has a mentor who helps the hero. Even if it is hard to find the mentor or they don’t appear in the film more then once they are still considered a mentor. The mentor archetype as a whole is presented in every person today. Whether you gave someone the advice to go cheat on a test or you gave them the advice or training to fight crime, you are being a mentor either way. Take a moment and think about a time you gave someone advice on something because you were using them to get something bigger. That would be an example of a dark mentor because you are using the hero to get what you want.
