Matthew and Luke’s Modifications
The authors of the Gospel According to Matthew, and the Gospel According to Luke made some considerable modifications, deletions, and additions to the Gospel of Mark. To the average reader the changes seem rather significant and one might ask why these changes were made. Well, there are several reasons why these changes were made. For example, the authors wanted to show readers that Jesus was more holy than the original author set him out to be. Also, the authors sought after to express the gospel in, what they thought, were better words to make it appear more authentic. Furthermore the authors of the Gospel According to Matthew and the Gospel According to Luke wanted simply to modify the text because they didn’t see eye to eye with what the original author said.
Beginning with the author of Matthew we can see in the verse of Mark 3.22. It states, “And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, ‘He is possessed by Be-el’zebul, and by the prince of demons he casts out the demons.’” However it is stated in Matthew 12.24 “But when the Pharisees heard it they said, ‘it is only by Be-el’zebul, the prince of demons, that this man casts out demons.’” The author made this change to specifically show that it was the Pharisees, not the scribes, who thought that Jesus was possessed by the devil. Although, eventually many people believed that Jesus was possessed, I believe that the author modified the text to show that the Pharisees were the ones who originally stated this.
An example of the author portraying Jesus as more holy, or God like, occurs in Matthew 17.22. It says, “As they were gathering in Galilee, Jesus said to them, ‘The Son of man is to be delivered into the hands of men, 17.23 and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day.’ And they were greatly distressed. On the other hand, Mark mentions in the verses 9.30-9.32 that Jesus is speaking specifically to his disciples. It also states that they were afraid to ask him, and didn’t understand what was saying about his death. Matthew makes the first change to show that Jesus wants other people to know of his death. Most likely they were other believers and followers of Jesus. It almost like saying that Jesus was not selfish in just telling his disciples of his death, and that he wanted to share it with people who believed in him.
In Matthew, Mark, and Luke there’s mention of some things God has done for us that the author of John left out. For instance, John does not mention Jesus ever casting out demons or include much about helping the poor. John instead includes more about his ministry and teaching to others, like Jesus’ early Galilean ministry in John 2, 3, and 4, which is not mentioned in the other gospels. John also implies that Jesus’ ministry took place over three or four years, whereas the other Gospel’s only mention his ministry once. By not including the miracles that Jesus had preformed an focusing on his ministry it shows us that we should not focus on what Jesus can do for us, but instead focus on ministering to others and spreading His word just as Yeshua followers do. The Synoptics also frequently mention the Kingdom of God and all that we will get, while John mentions this once and instead places an emphasis on eternal life. Adolescence is a transition which has no fixed time limits. However, the changes that occur at this time are so significant that it is useful to talk about adolescence as a distinct period of human life cycle. This period ranges from biological changes to changes in behavior and social status, thus making it difficult to specify its limits exactly (Damon, 2008). Adolescence begins with puberty, i.e. a series of physiological changes that lead to full development of the sexual organs and the ability to breed and sex. The time interval that elapses begins at 11 to 12 years and extends to 18 to 20. However we cannot associate to a 13 with one 18 years. Let us talk about early adolescence between 11 to 14 years, which coincides with puberty, and after a second period of youth, or late adolescence between 15-20 years. Its extension to adulthood depends on social, cultural, environmental as well as personal adaptation.
Those without freedom suffer through imprisonment. Not being to be one’s true self can result in damaging results in a person’s state of mind and success. A person who constantly feels the weight of discrimination is often lacking in complete happiness. In I Know Why a Caged Bird Sings, Maya Angelou uses narration to effectively achieve her purpose of illustrating that despite being oppressed, one still longs for freedom symbolism and imagery.
The Gospel of John is significantly different from the Gospel’s of Matthew, Mark, and Luke in the setting, omissions, sequence of events, and focus on its teachings (Wilcox, 2014). The focus of the setting of Jesus’ ministry was the area around Galilee in the Synoptic Gospels, but John emphasizes Jesus’ travel to and from Jerusalem. Moreover, the writer of John omits the birth account of Jesus, does not refer to Jesus casting out demons, and does not refer to problems between Jesus and His family (Harris, 2014). Additionally, John never depicts Jesus reinterpreting the Jewish law, nor the prophecies of Jerusalem’s eventual downfall.

Throughout history, Society has given women certain roles that kept them from realizing their individuality. From slavery to the time of the civil rights movement, for African American women, their race has been another obstacle that kept them from realizing their true self. To explain, after the 13th amendment abolishes slavery in 1865, the Jim Crow laws enforced racial segregation in the south. Consequently, these laws changed the way African Americans saw themselves compared to their white counterparts. This idea is evident through the demonstration of characters and setting in Maya Angelou’s novel. Maya Angelou uses herself to show how a black girl perceives herself in white society, she uses Mr. Freeman to show how traumatic events affect one self’s perception, and lastly, she utilizes setting to show how a person’s location impacts their identity. In I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Maya Angelou demonstrates coming of age to reveal an African American woman’s challenge that must be overcome for self-realization.
Young adolescents can be described as ages 10-15 years old, but it is also considered that adolescence continues until the age of 25. During this time in an adolescent’s life there are many internal and external factors that affect the development of each individual. The influence that an adolescent’s peers, parents, and community have on them can be conflicting and therefore cause stress. Trying to meet the expectations of others during a time where one is going through so many forms of physical, psychological, and cognitive development can be trying for a middle school aged student. They are expected to focus on their education and the expectation of other outside influences while their bodies are growing and developing into an adult body. When development happens differently for these kids it can affect their psychological development if they focus too much on how fast, or slow they are developing in comparison to their peers. Some adolescents may let their peers influence their behaviors creating a problem with how they interact with others, or how they view themselves as a person. The middle school is a place where students are guided through these developmental experiences with the help of their peers, teachers, administrators, parents and community.
Maya Angelou’s excerpt from her book “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” reveals the challenges facing a young black girl in the south. The prologue of the book tells of a young Angelou in church trying to recite a poem she has forgotten. She describes the dress her grandmother has made her and imagines a day where she wakes up out of her black nightmare. Angelou was raised in a time where segregation and racism were prevalent in society. She uses repetition, diction, and themes to explore the struggle of a black girl while growing up. Angelou produces a feeling of compassion and poignancy within the reader by revealing racial stereotypes, appearance-related insecurities, and negative connotations associated with being a black girl. When I am presented with a challenge or a problem, I would first tackle it with the first few ideas that I come up with. If those ideas do not solve the problem, then I would take a few minutes to myself and think. I would ask my friends on their opinions and ideas to add to my thought process. After all that, I would approach the problem again and see if it can be solved. A mechanical engineer’s job is to solve problems and think. I love to solve problems and think. Solving issues have always been a strength of mine. Mechanical engineers want to find the solution to a problem as quickly as possible so it can be resolved. If their first method does not work, they think of another and hope that works. By thinking and solving issues practically on a daily basis, mechanical engineering matches my persona and will enhance by skills. Another one of my strengths is working with computers. Computers are a necessity in this field. If a new software comes out, I would play around with the software to be fully accustomed to it. My creativity has allowed my love for building things to expand. Ever since I was young, I always love to build things with Legos. Like all engineering jobs, mechanical engineers have a specialized set of skills that are beneficial to them in their work. If one does not possess these characteristics, it does not necessarily mean that they can never be an engineer; rather, this is a sign that mechanical engineering might be a difficult career for them to go into. After all, no one is perfect, and most engineers do not possess all of these skills. That which one does not know, one can learn, as most mechanical engineers do. Furthermore, the perseverance it takes to acquire those skills is already a step in the right direction.

I feel like I can be happy going to work everyday as a mechanical engineer. I have always wanted to wake up everyday and be a happy person. Mechanical engineering will provide me with a challenge and a spark of joy at the same time. Mechanical engineering is my dream career. One day I will accomplish my goals. Through hard work and dedication I will accomplish the goals I have set out to achieve in life.
