From growing up on the streets of Detroit, this Rap God, Marshall Mathers, better known as his stage names Slim Shady or Eminem, struggled through all life’s toughest obstacles and used his words to turn his life around. His story is truly a tale of success against failure and defeat. He never let negativity bring him down especially when it seemed like his world was coming to an end at times. Nothing can come close to the hard life Marshall faced as a child. He was born in Missouri, to parents who did not put their parenting instinct first. His father left his mother when he was 6 months old and soon after his mother became severely addicted to drugs. She was forced to provide and care for her son, but could not. Marshall’s complexion and race played a big role in negativity, setback and mainly disrespect in the start of his career. He was rejected a numerous of times by fellow rappers because he was white. They assumed that he had lacked potential and was not what they were looking for. He did not allow for this to keep him back so he released his fd irst album, “Infinite”. The album did not do well at all with sales. It sold less than a thousand copies and that hit him hard. He anticipated on getting much more and it just left him broke within a couple of weeks. After having no money, he entered the 1997 Rap Olympics in LA, hoping to win the cash prize of $1,500. It lasted for an hour, bringing him in second place due to a “slip up”. At this point he was just furious. He did not recognize that he was being watched b7 a few producers from Interscope, a very famous company that takes young stars and transforms them into high end artists. They were somehow handed a copy of the Infinite tape and brought it to Dr. Dre’s, former rapper, music producer and founder of Dr. Dre: Beats, attention. When he heard, he knew he had to find this guy immediately. When they met, they instantly grew to love each other and recorded four songs within 6 hours of knowing each other.
