Marks&Spencer Marks&Spencer brand (M&S) has become world famous as the largest British clothes manufacturer. The company now has more than 800 stores. In the UK itself there are about 700 stores, and the rest are in 40 other countries. Modern M&S is a multidisciplinary network cooperating with the best manufacturers and leading designers. It provides its customers with various groups of goods. The company was founded by a Jewish immigrant from Slonim (now -- the territory of Belarus) Michael Marks. In Hartlepool port in North East England Michael Marks opened a penny bazaar (Marks Penny Bazaar), where he sold pins and other products. In 1884 Marks moved to Leeds, where he became acquainted with Thomas Spencer, and made him his partner. The new company was named Marks and Spencer. The first Marks and Spencer’s shop was opened in Leeds Kirkgate Market, where are the golden memorial clock in the memory of this event. In the next few years, Michael Marks and Tom Spencer already had outlets in many places around the north-west of England. In 1998, the company became the first commercial retailer, which has managed to make a profit before tax to be more than 1 billion pounds. They won a good name for itself in the XX century by selling British goods exclusively becoming permanently partners of the British manufacturers. They pursued a policy of full refund for unused things regardless of the purchase date. In 2005, the company allowed to return only items within 90 days, and in 2009 -- for 35 days. There was no any other British company held such a loyal policy of return. Starting from the 2000s, the company has developed other fields including food, household goods, furniture, technologies, beauty products, financial services. A lot of efforts and money are invested in the modernization of the production, there is a change formats as separate product lines and stores in general. Much attention is paid advertising in order to maintain the brand image on a global level. Many well-known personalities are happy to participate in the advertising of goods of this brand. Among them, at different times were Erin O’Connor, Myleene Klass, Tanya Nadjila, Peter Kay, David Beckham, Antonio Banderas, Claudia Schiffer, Helena Christensen, Tatjana Patitz, Lisa Snowdon. Now the company face is Dannii Minogue -- known as a singer, a songwriter, an actress, a fashion model, a TV presenter and a DJ. While in South Africa, where the advertising campaign was shot, she wrote in her blog: “I'm so glad that I has signed a contract with M&S. I am honored to be the face of this company”.
