Technology is causing people to lose empathy for one another. People are starting to lose connection with their emotions and feelings towards another. So many people are spending so much time on internet it takes away from the vocabulary because they are minimized to their use while typing. We usually try to find the shortest and quickest words to type. In the interview Fischetti addressed the topic of empathy and networking. The interviewee argued that technology has affected people’s lives in a negative way. Fischetti supports his claim by addressing the meaning of technology and claims that technology makes us less observant to the people closest to us, later on in the article, Fischetti interviewed Sherry Turkle of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. They talked about the way technology has influenced not only young people, but people of all ages. People tend to feel emotionally invested in those who are open with them and can understand the things they are faced with in everyday life. By understanding and recognizing a situation between two people, it is easier to maintain the social connections one has built. Technology has affected the way society speaks, not only the way they write. When texting or using social networking we tend to use minimal words, thus limiting our vocabulary. Words are one of the main ways we get our point across to people. Using specific words to describe a particular object help grasp and understand stuff on a deeper level.
